It looks like a pegmatite. It is often dark due to presence of biotite and red due to presence of feldspar - it cools quite slowly and these crystals are allowed to form. I think it may have been collected from somewhere near the coast because you can see the surface calcium deposits.
There is a bit of calcium deposits on the surface alright. I spoke with the seller and he bought them from a local store. I’ll use them, should be fine. Thanks Simon
