I'm dreaming... Of a big fish tank (documenting fish keeper's dreams)

Hi all, I realised after a post on my journal that lots of us seem to have unique and terrifying fish-related dreams.
I thought I'd compile them here and see if anyone has any others to add... Partly so we can all see our dreams are very ridiculous, but also so I don't inadvertently trip across nightmare fuel in my journal 😂

I had a dream (recurring nightmare) last night that Id massacred a tank of corys and Otto's that all had severe fin rot, so seeing an extra Cory this morning has thrown me for a bit of a loop. Now I don't know what to believe 😂

I also have dreams about killing fish, usually because I have forgotten about them and discover that I am the owner of a whole tank of dead and dying fish. 😩

Get this all the time, though usually I have somehow acquired some huge tanks filled with all sorts. Totally genuinely, last night for some reason there were also several monkeys living in the emersed parts who I had neglected. They all escaped into the house and were quite bitey trying to get them back in. Fortunately, I managed to make contact with the previous owner and they turned out to be quite social around the kitchen table once I knew their names 😂

My aquatic stress dream is that I neglected a tank for some period of time and, while everything is still alive, the tank is also now inhabited by a very large eel like creature that scares the hell out of me. I can’t get the eel out so the dream never resolves, just remains high anxiety until I wake up.

Less cheese before bed time.
Feel free to add/discuss 🙂

@hypnogogia I did wonder about that 😅 if I'm being honest, my therapist and I have given up interpreting my fish-related dreams... Turns out it really is just tank anxiety (tankxiety?), and not pointing towards a deeper psychological issue 😂

Not all my fish dreams are nightmares! Occasionally I go to cool fish stores. I don't remember too much, mostly just images from a few different dreams, but I do remember there was one that had a cool restricted area that you had to be "in the know" about and climb a ladder up to a hatch to get access to. I remember thinking during the dream that the exclusivity seemed like a gimmick as it wasn't really that much of a secret. You could see people climbing up the ladder!

My brain was giving me a fantasy fish store to explore and I had to be all cynical about it! How ungrateful of me! 😂 Better than dead fish for sure.

Oh Lordy, another dream/nightmare. This one - accidentally snipping a hiding fish in half while trimming moss.
This is horrible. Many years ago as an inexperienced reef keeper I took the end off a starfish’s leg with a gravel siphon. Didn’t know he was under the sand. I worried about him for about a week and then he sadly died. Never kept a starfish again after that.

I'm starting to look like the annoying spouse but...

You'd achieve a better sense of scale with your scape if you removed the dolphin.

Also the neons might be happier.

Oh, nevermind, it's jumped out.

I'd recommend the same of that shark though.

Hi all,
Keeping seven otters in a 40cm cube is just not right!

Do you know that you are dreaming? I have similar types of dreams, although not normally involving Otters or Dolphins, and often my (sub)conscious tells me that something doesn't quite make sense.

Hi all,
But is he dreaming what the kids say, or that the kids exist?
That is a whole new level of complexity, I obviously need to up my (dreaming) game, if that is possible?

I'm beginning to worry that my dreams are just startlingly mundane. Not only do I keep <"tabby fish"> in <"shabby tanks">, but even my dreams <"bump along the bottom"> in muted colours.
Keeping seven otters in a 40cm cube
Possibly OK? <"Bio Media for Planted Tanks.">

More to the point, where did you purchase the Otters and Dolphin from? Do they have CITES certificates and can the Otters be removed without considering Biodiversity Net Gain?

Are they Sea Otters? or is it a Freshwater Dolphin?

cheers Darrel

I guess we shall never know, sadly I now have to be awake.
But is he dreaming what the kids say
Haha, no this was dream me talking to my dad re the otters. (My kids definitely exist btw) No one pulled me up on housing those troublesome monkeys, though.

I'm not sure who the owner of the dolphin/shark tank was, though I did think I should clarify that it was indeed a dream I had and not a conversation with @Gill 😛
