T5 24W

Hi,

Just setting up a planted tank for the 1st time, I have won a lighting control unit on ebay which is T5 2 X 24W

Would this be enough for my tank which is 48 inches long x 17.5 inches wide abd 16 inches deep

Looking at a low tech set up

Hi Simon. Welcome to ukaps.
When you say low tech how low tech are we on about. Does the light unit span the length of the tank? It is only 48w in total so not sure if it would be enough for certain plants

Thanks for the reply, the 2 bulbs are each 24inches in length

Plan to only use low light plants and no co2

Im not sure they'd be sufficient enough, only being that short too you'll be left with a lot of darker area in the tank. It may work though if your going low light, no co2 etc.

Maybe if I put the bulbs end to end that would cover the 4ft length then

Maybe I could change to another controller that's available which is 2 x 54w which maybe too much light, is it possible to use lower rated bulbs ie 2 x 39w in that unit?

2 x 54 watt wouldbt be too much I doubt but putting the bulbs end to end would work in terms of giving an even spread of light.
You can't put lower wattage bulbs in though as they'd just blow if have thought
