A article by Nathan Hill in PFK brings news of the future of imports of these fish,, Nathan explains they are susceptible to to a disease which if they got in UK waters could see them pass this on to Carp, Rainbow Trout ,,Bream and a few more ,for short the diseases in question are( for short VHS and SVC )The future looks uncertain he goes on to say and likely only specialist importers with new certification with lengthy quarantine and any outbreaak to follow could lead to a total ban

Thanks P. What do these fish look like? If you search that on the web you only seem to get the well known Zebra Danio.

Yes the well known Danios Zebra,, leopard in most every aquarium store and Ricefish popular in aqauriums and.poonds Both these species are temperate but tolerate cold water,

O, I see! This is about the potential for the Zebra Danio to become a band fish. Got it, sorry - too early in the morning for me.

Hi all,
The future looks uncertain he goes on to say and likely only specialist importers with new certification with lengthy quarantine and any outbreaak to follow could lead to a total ban
They wouldn't be able to totally ban import of <"Zebra Danio"> (Danio rerio) or <"Medaka"> (Oryzias latipes), they are very widely <"cultured by Universities">, research institutes etc as <"model organisms">.

cheers Darrel

The lab zebra danios are kept in fairly sterile conditions and at higher temperatures. They’re also a pretty different strain - apparently they have different chromosomes! I can imagine they’re different enough to be exempt if any ban were to come in, but a general ban would also surprise me.
