    Red Rili berried

I had heard this before and wasnt expecting much from my first drop however ALL 20 shrimpletts (now reaching maturity) have red tails and Red heads, there are however more broken bits of Red on these than the parents with around 20% being perfect. Too early to say what the new shrimpletts from...

    Red Rili berried

Sentral, yea Im happy to report that the first batch of 20 survivors are now nearing maturity, several saddled fems so hopefully the colony will increase much faster. I have a newly hatched second batch, again about 20. First batch perfect colouration as parents. These guys seem to grow much...

    Red Rili berried

I originally started with 5 - 2 fems and 3 males. One of each died along the way for some reason. The big fem was berried but no sign of ANY offspring?? She became berried again recently with a mahoosive clutch of eggs and has since dropped but thus far can only count 2 shrimpletts both of...

Nice one Antoni, we must chat at the next PAS meeting (5th) or pop up to me and see my setup.

    Selling Super Red Cherry Shrimp?

Difficult as I have approx 10 adult Red fems in with 10 adult Male yellows which would make it near impossible to know what mother the resulting offspring came from and I dont have the tank space to separate out any further.

    Best substrate for breeding CRS

Brilliant, thank you so much for this advice. Perhaps now my shrimpletts will survive...!!

    Best substrate for breeding CRS

Thanks Dincho, Ill deff check that site out later. I have nothing in the tank that would buffer the PH with the exception of a sponge filter - I know this will increase PH and have thought about replacing with a small internal filter with fine mesh over the intake. So assuming I purchased...

    Best substrate for breeding CRS

Stats now KH3 / GH4 but PH remains around 7.4 Using RO with NOTHING added as yet. Loads of berried fems but still no shrimpletts....! I dont want to go upsetting the substrate at this stage unless I absolutely have to - I believe the Amazonia II is ok for CRS - can you confirm please? Where in...

    Selling Super Red Cherry Shrimp?

Stability wise, Im getting an Orange hue in all of the offspring, some a lot more than others so im just sifting through the best ones and putting the rest into my ferrel tank - this is the tank where all the poor coloured shrimp go to see what eventually gets thrown up...! Question for the...

    Selling Super Red Cherry Shrimp?

My "ferell" cherries are throwing up some interesting colour forms - im nurturing a batch of Orange shrimp at present and seem to be producing Orange consistantly now 3 generations later.
  19. B

    Selling Super Red Cherry Shrimp?

Im of the same opinion Antoni however I do believe that it is very easy to lose the colour strain with passing generations when in-breeding is taking place. It is imperative in my opinion to keep the gene pool healthy by adding different strains from time to time. Not all colonies of Cherries...

    Selling Super Red Cherry Shrimp?

Well finally it seems that most are agreed (at least on this forum) that Fire Red and Sakura are in fact Neocaridina Hetropoda Var. Red - that has always been my bug bear and I needed clarification that all are the one species. That being the case I can certainly start to GRADE the adults and...

    Shrimp Stocking Levels

I expect around 10 would be a comfortable number. They will continue to breed (at least the RCS will) until they reach a certain level then suddently a self preservation thing kicks in and they stop breeding - thats when you know you have reached max capacity....!!

CRS baby! Now with pic of babies & my advance filter! lol

Re: CRS baby! Now with pic of babies & my advance filter! lo So by changing water using only RO now I have managed to reduce my KH/GH from 6/16 to 3/4 but PH remains around 7.5 ish. My shrimp are berried but still no sign of the littleuns surviving. Do I need a mineral supplement and what...
  26. B

    preg CRS?...

There must be a common denominator happening somehow that provides the basis for the young to survive. Ive had a CRS/CBS tank setup for 6 months or so now and thus far have only seen 2 babies and they didnt survive despite the colony of 40 or so adults constantly berried. My tap stats are PH...

    Selling Super Red Cherry Shrimp?

I agree they look pretty good and IF this is an official grading list then mine would be right up there at the top - but at the end of the day they are still bog standard Cherries which ive selectively bred for the last 3 years. I would not wish to mislead anyone by badging them as something...

    What shrimp(s) do you keep?

Its just a bog standard RCS. Admittedly after 3 years of very hard selectively breeding to produce this deep Red. Not sure that the freshwater SAKURA is a separate species or just a term for a higher grade Cherry - Sakura being Japanese for Cherry - the Sakura shrimp is actually a Marine...

    Selling Super Red Cherry Shrimp?

Ben I regularly post my Cherries, to be fair I have spent several years perfecting and increasing the red colouration of my cherries and would say that I have got about as far as I can go with them - pic below for example Mine are no more than simple Cherries, I wont badge them as anything...

    Odd shrimp behaviour

Ive had this problem when setting up new tanks, first few days they seem to congregate at the top back corners and try and climb out - Never worked out why but can only assume they much prefer a fully matured tank with old water. Solution for me is making sure my water level is a couple of...

    Red Cherry Berry Question

It is of course possible that one of the 2 original fems was already dropping her saddle having mated beforehand...you didnt say how long you had them before the eggs appeared? The smaller two will be the males however it is usual that the Fems are the deeper Red. As Jason said, there is a very...

    Shrimp dramatic change of colour

Looks like a saddled female, in which case she could be displaying breeding plumage as do the Cherries when ready to drop.

    Have you kept Vampire crabs?

I had 4 x Vampire crabs from MH Aq's at the begining of the year and put them in my missus cory tank. They all climbed out up the plants and sat mainly on the glass bracing bars where I fed them pretty much anything..! The did however eventually go for walkies and my dog usually found them...

What do you feed your shrimp?

Indian Almond leaves throughout all my shrimp tanks, also this time of year you can easily gather OAK loaves which break down much slower than IAL's and provide the leaf litter that the shrimp love to graze on. I also use sliced Zuccini/Courgette once a week, Spirulina stix, Earthworm stix and...
