    Aquatic moss brown dead?

I've got some really good spiky moss growing on in my breeder tanks, some on stones, some just sitting in the tank, it's growing great, nice and green. I removed some, divided it and put on stones...it's gone a golden brown colour. I think its dead. Does it ever revive or should I just get rid?

    Propagating java fern

I have some little offsets on java fern leaves I want to propagate for my guppy breeder tanks. I want to grow them on a bit before putting them in their home tank. I'm torn between just attaching them to little rocks and growing them that way...or something I saw on you tube. They took the...

    Replanting crypts with long roots

I have more substrate on order as I've realised its not deep enough. I am going to experiment with trimming some, not others.

    Replanting crypts with long roots

I have stripped down my tank, put new substrate in and replanted the various types and sizes of crypts. They have very long roots and keep floating up. Should I be trimming the roots? Any other tips? I hate how it looks today but know when they've established it will be just right.

    Anubias Disease!

I have just revisited this. My local fish shop are quite well informed and suggested a permanganate bath. I've tried it today on all my anubias remainders. I won't be buying any more until I see if this Permanganate helps. I'm cross as I lost 3 big a. Barteri from the back and now have a...

    Anubias Disease!

I seem to have anubias rot too. It took me a while to realise. Unfortunately I have a lot of anubias. At first I thought the leaves had been bitten off by snails and floated to surface, as I've seen snails on the affected plants. will all my plants become infected from this?

    Guppy grass propagation

None of it came in a take away container, they both came in tiny bags. The sandwich box its sat in is mine.

    Guppy grass propagation

Some sellers take the trouble to use a small box which is narrow enough for large letter, others put it in a flat envelope with a cardboard back. Lot 2 Not the best way is it.

    Guppy grass propagation

So your advice would be to drop only the stem pieces in the tank and see what happens? I felt so doubtful, that I contacted the seller and asked them to send me a proper stem piece as I didnt think the leaves on their own were any good.

    Guppy grass propagation

I bought some "guppy grass" to try. It seems to be all leaf clippings. Will a new plant grow from just a leaf or does it need a length of stem? I can't see how singular leaves would grow. I have tried to delete the nestle file and cant :) I didnt remember it being there to upload!

    Dwarf hairgrass is unhealthy.

Yellowish brown hairgrass. What's happening? It started so well in May. I'm using co2 and tropica premium nutrition. The substrate is tropica. I'm nervous it will rot and make tank conditions unhealthy.

    Bald patch on the lawn

There is a patch on my dwarf hairgrass carpet that keeps getting dug up by Amano. It established and grew really well at first but isn't looking so good now. I replant this with bits from the back and it gets uprooted every time. I haven't changed lighting or ferts from when it was first...

Java fern, what to do with offshoots

See pic, in my 'scaped tank my java fern has offshoots on ends of leaves. Do I cut these off and propagate them or just leave them to grow on the top of each plant? If I leave them what will it look like?

    Aponogeton: ulvaceous and natans

I bought some A. ulvaceous in bulb form, planted them in a pot and was amazed at the number of leaves that came. I did this with 3 bulbs and added each to a different angel tank. In one tank the plant is large, luxuriously furnished with greenery and completely untouched. In two of the tanks...

Dry start - feeling a bit confused ...

About 3 weeks ago I put some fluval shrimp stratum in a hexagonal tank, arranged my rockscape, planted some dwarf hairgrass and got some craft mesh and wrapped phoenix moss around it. I wanted to go for dry start, so I put in just enough water to cover the substrate, but as this is higher at...

brown algae / diatoms on leaves of anubias

I was still being bothered by the diatoms up to the beginning of this week. I bought 4 nerites and changed the position of the tank. I am hoping the problem has gone away, but I cant be sure!

brown algae / diatoms on leaves of anubias

I have decided that my problem with the anubias is brown algae. If you take the plant out of the water, rub leaves with a damp piece of filter floss, it comes off. I did this the other day, rubbed a lot off, but its building up again. My two anubias are now in my goldfish tank 240 litres...

Brown edges of leaves, what does it indicate?

T8s unfortunately, thats why I went for so called low light plants. I will trim off whatever is possible without making it look a mess. I am going to add some trace elements in addition to TPN+ as I am assuming this isnt enough. Got this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Trace-Elements-Mi ...

Brown edges of leaves, what does it indicate?

To get back to the original question, this is still happening. I have reduced the photoperiod and added more floating plants. Do I reduce the photoperiod further? One of my moss balls has a brown patch on now. I keep moving them around. I am still getting new leaves on the anubias. I...

Brown edges of leaves, what does it indicate?

This is the stuff I have: http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquar ... 2-8kg.html It is covered with pea gravel. I have ordered some TPN+ and will see how I get on with it. I have actually thought of buying potassium sulphate potassium nitrate and epsom salts and mixing my own, but I presume I...

Brown edges of leaves, what does it indicate?

Thank you. Do I go ahead with fertilizer at this point, or wait until the plants are more used to the set up? I hope the anubias dont lose all their leaves as they are lovely and glossy, apart from the edges on some of them. I am trying to work out why the "golden " form of the anubias is...

Brown edges of leaves, what does it indicate?

Wow! Im really surprised! The light is only one 18 watt tube that is standard with this type of tank. I bought the Flora sun max plant grow one and fitted a new reflector recently. I will whip out the reflector ... its funny because that does coincide with the problems. I have some salvinia...

Brown edges of leaves, what does it indicate?

No, neither of those. I was going to start dosing fertiliser but have only just put in the new substrate. Which fertiliser do you recommend? Is it a specific deficiency? If a want an easy maintenance CO2 which one should I start with? I used Easycarbo in my old tank, but was wondering if I...

Brown edges of leaves, what does it indicate?

I set up my new tank a few weeks ago using a mature filter from my old tank and transferred my stock across. I used new tetra plant complete substrate, covered with gravel from my previous tank. I also took bogwood and plants from my previous tank. Some of my plants, anubias mainly, are...
