 hi all,

Lighting has always confused me; :? but after reading several posts on here could you tell me if what I think I finally understand is correct please; (hope that makes sense)

Plants don't "really" care about specialist lights- so long as they get some (light).

This being the case, I can then just use normal flouresent tubes, so long as I like the effect of them?
If the above comment is true I have seen a black light in a diy store I wouldn't mind buying to use at night time would this be ok?

many thanks

beccy

Hi,
Everything you stated is true except the part about black light. Plants typically only use light in the VISIBLE spectrum. Ultraviolet is not in the visible spectrum and can sometimes be harmful. So, the black lights do emit some violet light (that's the only reason you can see it). Having said that though I have not actually seen PAR measurement data on black lights. They may have more PAR than we think...

Cheers,

thanks ceg4048,

yeah I understood it.

Reason wanted to try the black light as sit opposite the tank and when we watch tv, can be abit bright, so thought black light might be better and still get to see fish too.

thanks
