I have a question about the moss in the picture. Are those dreads normal for this type of moss of has algae taken over? I think this has to be taiwanmoss or xmas/java moss. Should it look like in the picture or does it need cleaning or be cut short?
Yes, it is a green filamantous algae. These tend to be palatable to shrimps etc, but difficult to control via chemical means, mainly because the "Green Algae" (Chlorophyta) have the same <"basic physiology and photosystems"> as all the higher plants and mosses.
The moss I can see is a Fissidens sp. so definitely worth trying to save. You could try and lower light intensity a little bit? I'm <"always wary of this">, so tend to use a "net curtain" of <"floating plants">.
