    CO2 levels after trimming

Interesting, I didn’t know about cleaning the diffuser before use! That would explain a lot of things! I often read about people settling on or around 1 or 2 bps ish. When I initially set it up I’m at around 5 or 6 bps! When I cleaned it yesterday I left it running and dumped it in a 50/50...

Hi many thanks for your response - really helpful :). I did have a bottle of the TNC stuff before the Aquadip but switched to the latter as was recommended in PFK. I thought the Aquadip did have Nitrate and Phosphate in it as it says its has all the macro and nutrients in it in the spiel for...

    CO2 levels after trimming

I've always left the gas well alone, even after heavy trimming. If it's dialled in correctly to start with there is usually no need to mess with it further. In fact I try to time maintenance and trimming so it's done before the gas comes on. However, as plant biomass increases it sometimes needs...

    CO2 levels after trimming

Tank is 100L. Everything was planted from 1-2 grow pots a month ago and was just left until well rooted before this big trim. Trimming one or two species a week does make sense and going forward that’s something I could probably implement. The carpet etc is not going to need trimming as often as...

Slightly off tangent, but if you contact your local fire service they will likely come out and do a safety visit and can fit fire alarms that have flashing lights/vibration alerts too (usually its a free service) there will be a number or form on their website. Good luck with the training :)

Hi All I have been keeping low tech planted tanks for about 3 years with varying degrees of success with the plants. I set up a small 30l cube aquarium (no CO2) about 2 months back, heavily planted with 'easy' plant species (Rotala rotundifolia, hygrophila polysperma, lobelia cardinalis to...

An old-school very effective dog prank for peeing dogs is sprinkling fine ground pepper around at suspected spots. When it has it becomes a self-trained habit for the dog to pee at (a) certain spot(s). Each dog also has the habit of sniffing around before peeing, the dog will inhale the fine...

    CO2 levels after trimming

Hi, I'm no expert but I would imagine this becomes more of a problem the smaller the tank volume but the simple way round it is to just trim one or two plant species per week (depending on size of the tank) rather than decimating all of the plants in one foul swoop. This has always worked for me...

This works best if you actually measure KH. Happily, measuring KH by acid titration is easy and reliable - more so than measuring pH which can be tricky to do well. Yeah, in that case you need to get degassed water pH and it should be at 7.65 pH to prove you have ~30ppm CO2 in your water. Get glass of water from your tank, leave it for 24 hours to degass, then check it’s pH with the same pH probe.
