Also if you want a bit more flow around substrate level you can use an elbow piece on the outflow pipe and 'aim' it just below the inlet.

I would recommend you pop that diffuser down into the chamber where the heater and power head is, I did this with my aquanano and it worked a treat. Which way around have you got the power head, slider switch at the top or wire at the top? //Jan

My daughter has one of those funny looking Aquanox diffusers underneath an Eheim pickup filter, works a treat. Also +1 on putting co2 into the inlet of canister filters, horrible noises.

No that will be just fine, the ballast, is rated for 54W, it won't PUSH 54W into the tube it means the tube can DRAW 54W. :)
