I have 2 litres of prime so used some. when I thought about it the the untreated water would probably kill off the bacteria that had started to grow.

congo sand is nice from unipac ma sell it it has about 3 different grades and colours mixed. I mixed it with limpopo to darken it a little. I tried the tesco cat litter but could not get rid of the smell so gave up.

I took them out was doing me head in relentlessly chasing my otos even harrasing my female apistos. I had 14 in a 260 litre with 1 m +2f a. caca and 3 otos 3 cory. Quite heavily planted. I have had them before and they have been fine just a few of them had gone mental.

:lol: it sure is. I did switch to RO in the end though as the tapwater caused a bit algae outbreak. But just pointing out that hotwater can be used if needed but as said best to test for copper and other nasties as well

When i setup my first marine reef i used tap water and water out of the hot tap as well. I had many inverts that never suffered from it but it might be worth testing for copper with a test kit to be sure.

I use a water butt and water butt pump from when i had my 6x2x2 and it makes life alot easier. Only use it to put the water back in now as the tanks are not as big but it still saves using buckets and spilling water on the carpet.

I got 3 bags 1 from one shop and 2 from another. The 2 that i got last were multi coloured and the first was mainly black and seemed finer i thought it was just me but since i read this i know it is not so just fired them an email.
