Where do you guys get your FEs refilled? I’m near Hillingdon, Uxbridge and Chalfont way and I’m struggling to find anywhere. I can order a new bottle from Amazon but wanted to see if I could get the one I have refilled but am struggling to find anywhere.
Thanks for the reply. Obviously it’s better to put them in pre setup but I don’t have the luxury unfortunately since my tank is already up and running.
I was trying to think of some sort of staple type object to hold the plant in but don’t really think metal would work so thought I’d ask what...
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or suggestions for securing carpeting plants such as Hemianthus Callitrichoides to your substrate?
I know when starting off tanks you can put them in before adding water to help the roots take but what do you guys do for more established tanks where this...
I’ve had BGA in the past. I managed to get rid of it without a blackout by over/double dosing my ferts and increasing the flow over the offending area with a wave maker.
Thanks all. I’ve had them for a number of years or they’ve grown on from ones I bought that long ago so I can’t remember exactly what I got.
I think Wendtii would be the most likely since that’s the most commonly available and I would only have picked them up from my LFS at the time.
Cheers...
Ive had this Crypt for a while now and was planning to thin it out and sell some on but I’ve been asked what variety it is and I’m not sure. Just wondered if anyone has any thoughts on what type it could be?
Have you seen it anywhere else? It looks really cheap but then they add on £8.95 for postage which means they charge you £12.90 for a litre. I can get 4 bottles of 5 litres on Amazon for £23 but I don’t need 4!
What peat did you mix with this? I'm getting a new tank in the next 24 hours so am seriously considering using the aquatic compost in it.
Edit: Just reread your first post in this thread and am now reading your Soil article from it!
Thanks for the reply. Anything hanging over is out as it needs to go inside the hood.
I also think from those options you've put then I do need to set a budget as I'll be in trouble for spending that much! I think i'm looking for something much cheaper, maybe £150-200 tops. Not sure how much...
Hi, thanks for the reply. Its got a hood and has what is effectively a glass shelf 5 inches below. Budget wise, I didn't want to go mad but haven't really set myself a budget as I don't really know what my choices are.
After an accident where the filter on my current tank leaked and damaged the cabinet, I’ve decided to replace the setup with something new.
I’m getting a 48”x18”x24” tank but the tank doesn’t come with any lights. I’m contemplating putting the current lights into it, if only temporarily...
Hi all, I'm interested to know if anyone out there is using the JBL regulator with a fire extinguisher. I heard they weren't recommended as the pressure could cause an issue with the JBL reg but looking at the stats on the JBL website, it seems to suggest that I could use an fire extinguisher...
Hi all, I am after some assistance identifying a plant that I used to own. I gave some over stock to a friend and to cut a long story short I lost all my plants.
This was a year or so ago and I've just visited him to find he still has the plants I gave him and they seem to be doing ok.
For the...
Thanks for that mate, it was really useful and certainly gives me something to think about! I think it sounds about the same as the Rena XP3 that I have. Just looking to replace my other XP2.
I get the feeling the APS stuff is all functional but cheap and cheerful. You have a nice size tank...
I'm using the JBL m602 with a 500g bottle. I am currently running at 2 bubbles a second but I've had a few problems with the set up. The check valve that came with the setup failed so that water got back down to the solenoid. This only happened when it it was off so the water didn't reach the...
Any further updates on this one? I'm thinking of getting one for a tank I have. Are they really very quiet? I am looking at some second hand Rena XP filters too but wondered what the difference would be between an new APS 2000 and a second hand XP3.
I did catch it early enough so that the regulator was not damaged and now I have two check valves in place. All seemed fine with the setup for a few weeks but now my solenoid keeps sticking open. I got the JBL m602 so the solenoid came directly attached to the regulator and I'm not sure if it is...
Just as an update, I have a Rena XP2 and XP3 running on the tank. Hoping to get an UP atomiser to help disperse CO2 more effectively but short term have put the CO2 tube just inside one of the filter intake pipes.
Not seen much improvement in the plants yet. Might take some photos later.
Firstly, thanks for taking the time to reply and providing the threads and sub threads! It all makes sense now that my mind is free! :)
Really appreciate the help and guidance on this. I'm now thinking, based on this that I need to increase the flow and look for an inline diffuser to get CO2...
Thanks, so just to be clear, you're saying that the lighting for my tank is ok and that I should concentrate on CO2, flow and distribution which is the likely cause of my plants either fading away or growing tall and thin/losing leaves at the bottom of stalks?
Cheers.
thanks for your reply krazypara. The drop checker is on the other side of the tank to the diffuser but as you say, it could be something related and worth checking.
The plants just seem to do two things. One is struggle and get stringy and thin at the bottom, other plants have just struggled...
Thanks for the reply Paul. Are you saying that 90w would be enough to light the tank for low level plants if I got rid of the Vallis?
The only reason I ask is because one half of the tank is in shade from the Vallis whilst the other isn't and its plants on both sides of the tank that seem to...
I have a query regarding lighting that I’d appreciate some advice on.
I currently have a tank that measures 120cm long, 40cm wide and 60cm deep, with a capacity of 288 litres. About 3-4 months ago I started using CO2 via the JBL M602 and dosing with plant fertilisers from Aquarium Plant Food UK...
Thanks Hogan, I'm hoping I caught it early enough. I will definitely get at least 2 check valves now. Always planned to get the extra one but didn't count on the JBL one failing...
Just to add, I've realised the Solenoid valve was closed as the unit was powered off. Not sure if this will stop water flowing back into the regulator but I hope so. Maybe someone can advise? (Hopefully!)
I've just discovered that my CO2 has run out and the check valve has failed so water has made it into the regulator.. :(
I need to get a replacement bottle tomorrow but is my regulator likely to have failed?
