Well, on Monday we had a very unexpected rush to the hospital as my Mrs went into labour 5 weeks early. Could this be the hand of a future famous aquascaper lol

That's what started this lol I took it out to scrub it then another and another and before I knew it I was playing with other stones lol totally unplanned but heyho see how it goes.

ADA 60P - Shades of Grey

So.... yesterday's clean turned into a rescape.... I have no idea how it happened or what I even think of it but somehow general maintenance turned into far more lol Here is the tank today, I'm looking into plant options to suit it.

Ultimate reef is a bit uptight, the salty box is nice and relaxed.

So who has the best aquascape right now on UKAPS, and lives in the UK...?

Far from the best but I'm an hour up the road

    Tank suggestions 60cm max

Very good, side by side to the 60p there isn't much if any difference in silicone work. After a while though there is a noticeable difference in quality of glass with the ADA being clearer.

ADA 60p or TMC Signature 600x450x300.

ADA 60P - Shades of Grey

I haven't modded it yet but thinking about it it would be ideal if it was threaded so you could just make little turns to adjust and set it. I don't think it would have put me off buying it if I knew I would have the issue, however there is another that's becoming obvious. Because the flow is...

ADA 60P - Shades of Grey

Totally neglected the tank since the last update as I just haven't had a chance to touch it, got a little staghorn on the Juncus behind the main stone which I assume is lack of flow due to the stone restricting it so I'll deal with that. Algae on the glass etc needs a clean but here's a quick...

ADA 60P - Shades of Grey

It's a problem even with daily evaporation, I'm thinking a little o ring as is on the bottom adjuster would solve it. Although it stops it "auto adjusting" which it doesn't anyway so I think I'm going to try fixing it in place.

ADA 60P - Shades of Grey

Everything's growing well, had to trim the DHG for the first time but it's sending out plenty of runners which is great. Starting to get a little frustrating having to play with the skimmer attachment to get it just right now after every water change.

Thought I would report back with pretty exciting news, I have just spotted a fry which I presume is from the rice fish which I watched spawn. I assume at least that one egg was attached/stuck to/in the Juncus as that is where it just popped up from.

Running two filters through single hoses

When I chained multiple externals before I did it with Rena xp2's, out to in and so on and it worked fine. It's just running two via single pipes I'm not certain on as I haven't before, it would be two Eheim 2213's. What would make you go for two intakes @Edvet?

Well the 16mm skimmer pipe is a lot bigger than I expected.... possibly better suited to a min 90cm tank rather than 60cm but it's great either way. I've removed the additional circulation pump and will see how it goes for a week, if I notice any change I'll look at upgrading my Eheim 2213...

This has been ticking over nicely now since I made the changes, no hair algae not a single strand! No algae on the plants in the slightest! I do have a future plan set in my mind of how it will be planted at some point...

CO2, light & algae, my understanding.

We all know plants do not use co2 while they are "asleep" yes? So running 24/7 is just a waste, I really don't understand how me saying that factoring in this big ball of fire in the sky as a light source rather than only accounting for the light unit on the tank is so dismissed..... The basic...

No offence Clove but I've not taken a wrong turn anywhere nor do I need to do a ph profile at this point, I do fully appreciate your experience and input but what I'm aiming to correct is my co2/light period nothing to do with lack of co2 during the lighting period, rather that infact the...

    Co2 2hr rule myth

So here it is again, perhaps it is just a coincidence the AR mini is also reaching in the same direction as the natural light too lol If the natural/ambient light on a tank is strong enough to cause plants to reach for it I think it impossible to not factor it in as a light source and adjust...

    CO2 - stable pH question

For the last few days I have timed my co2 to the ambient/natural light, in my mind if the plants are receiving enough light for photosynthesis then I should have the co2 timed to match it. No proven mechanics behind it just my own theory which happens to be totally different to the given...

  90. Danny

CO2, light & algae, my understanding.

I've also thought that even basing co2 on 30ppm is only actually because livestock won't tolerate much more than that, we have far more than 30ppm in the atmosphere where plants thrive so it's a bit of a misconception that 30ppm is needed for the plants rather than it just being a maximum level...
  91. Danny

CO2, light & algae, my understanding.

I guess I'm just throwing the rule book out the window with my theory, I have no idea how much co2 I have in ppm I just know it's as high as the fish can take. I've simply broken down the basics of that if a plant has enough light to wake up it should have co2, given the basic understanding...
  92. Danny

CO2, light & algae, my understanding.

I'll need to do a new one as I have re scaped since my last one, from what I remember based on the ph table I had over 100ppm which obviously isn't right but someone said the co2/ph profile was based on RO not tank water.

    Co2 2hr rule myth

Lets work with an example of my theory based on summer time, So lets say a room gets enough ambient light to "wake up the tank" from say 6am until say 10pm, 16hrs total Then the tank light is run from say 4pm until 10pm, 6hrs Co2 run from 2pm to 9pm, 7hrs If the tank is awake and plants...

How long was your lighting period? Great tank
  97. Danny

    Co2 2hr rule myth

Anyone that has their lights and co2 synced to say 5pm for example is potentially neglecting the need for co2 from when the tank wakes up, in my case 8am ish but will differ from room to room of course.
  98. Danny

    Co2 2hr rule myth

The only benefit I can see of running 24/7 is having that added co2 when the tank wakes up which is where I feel the standard 2hrs before lights on ignored, there is no benefit of co2 over night so it can only be that the potentially ignored time is then covered.
  99. Danny

    Co2 2hr rule myth

I did a brief ph profile and checked it against the ph/co2 chart which came back as off the scale lol Through trial and error I have the co2 as high as I can without the fish gasping at the surface so know I'm at my max level for it, distribution is in my mind great and diffusion is inline...
  100. Danny

    Co2 2hr rule myth

Literally, I have been as sure as I can be that I'm doing everything as I should in the tank with co2 etc etc but nothing was getting any better with algae, yet the plants all grow like mad even buces were sprouting shoots all over the place.
