Yeah, I dose MG too and I get CA from CaNO3, but I don't have any carbonate source.

I just get mine from the pharmacy. There are a few options here locally, like Dr. Malik hydroponic store. Or you can ask at the local AQ forum, the guys will be able to help you to source locally.

Our tap water in Singapore is soft, both low on gh and kh.

Don't forget mg is a micro. May not be needed unless you are using RO water.

Yeah, that I understood for a 2KG FE. But if the tank is in litres, which is quite common in Asia. Thought litre is a volumetric measurement and not weight, which is mass, thus my confusion. Maybe Zak / flygja can chime in :)

I have the same up cylinder here. At our local LFS, they don't fill up by weight, I.e.1kg. But rather like 66% or something of that 1L. Will dig it out later. All our co2 cylinder are sold by litres in Singapore.

I typically use distilled water because their PH is lower because there is no KH buffering. FE chelators such as DTPA or EDTA is affected by the PH value. See this thread: http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/chelated-fe.31529/ and it's graph.

I don't really quarantine mine but I do observe them for 24 hours before putting them into the main tank. Sometimes, I just dump them in. So far no issues. *fingers crossed*

KNO3 is meant to meet the K and NO3 requirements for EI, so it does raise the NO3 level but weekly water change helps to reset the amount. Look under wet's calculator (http://rota.la/ei/) for long time effect of dosing.

The guys here will say don't ever test because test kits are not reliable.

I have some staurogyne growing in a tray for a few weeks. No issues so far until I sprinkled some fertilizer yesterday and some of them melted. Looks like those melted ones had fertilizer granulars on their leaves. Bad luck? Or because of the ferts.

I will recommend taking a photo before the change. It helps to record the before change effect and makes it easier to compare.

Yeah, lumps are irritating when you have to break them apart to dose. Also, typically our teaspoon calculation is based on "dry" weight and not mushy/wet/moist lumpy ones, otherwise just dose extra to be safe.

I store all my ferts in air tight containers with "thirsty hippos" to avoid them getting mushy in our weather, especially the epsom and calcium nitrate salts.

I'm guessing GH booster is to help with the micros like Ca and Mg but not really a GH booster per se, since plants do not really care about soft and hard water? We aren't really trying to increase GH but dose some additional micros?

Can't we dose Ca(NO3)2*4H2O and Mg from epsom salt too as "GH booster"? I substituted KNO3 with CaNO3 because KNO3 is not available as salt but only 5% liquid form and I dose Mg once in a while.

It's been a week and they have grown. Now I can see them eating the brine shrimps, whether dead or alive. There used to be some white micro worms in the tank. Those worms are so tiny and thin, less than a millimeter. I tried crush Tetra bits but they didn't like it, and was hard to get it real...

I tried 100% pure spirulina pills that are smashed up into fine powder. Mix a tiny bit with tank water and pour them in. Actually, I don't know whether they are eating. Not sure at all.

Now I can see most of my beta fries are no longer sticking to the side. They are either swimming or at the bottom. I fed them the brine shrimp but they seem to be not feeding on them.

After the eggs are laid, the male was guarding the bubble nest but it died in day 2. It was floating upside down. The tank has no filter and only about 2inches of water, and I didn't feed him during the breeding period. Bad water quality? Weak and exhausted?

Here's a picture of the outlet. It is pointing 45 degrees from bottom right to top left. About 2 inches below water surface and slightly pointing up.

I gassed out the remainder of the co2 by putting in a sponge filter for a day. The PH dropped from 7 to 5 within an hour or less. I might have turned it too high this time. Going to tune it down further and test again.

Another observation is about 30 mins after CO2 is off, the fish started not to cluster together but some are them are still literally at the top. Otherwise they will all cluster near the outlet.
