UK Shops for the Planted Tank Hobbyist

Hi Try www.aquaessentials.co.uk They have some decent plants (however it is an online shop) So far all our planted tanks are thriving and they supplied the plants. It seems their plants adapt very well with UK waters.

    A year of brown algae

I would suggest you get a couple of golden loaches or sucking loaches. You might want to get some siamese flying fox. It should do the trick. I will agree with Ceg. Stop all the chemistry lab experiment and let nature find it way

UK Shops for the Planted Tank Hobbyist

The stores around UK , especially in London do not have decent selection of plants. I would suggest to try http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk. We use them a lot as the plants seem to adapt with London water.

    The "one-two punch" algae treatment

I would say stick to adding easy carbo or Seachem excel. Eventually the BBA should go away , The idea is to encourage plants to flourish in order to starve the algae. It will take a couple of weeks to go away (it is not an instant solution)

    Braceless tank question

That is quite a big tank. Glass are quite tough but it takes just a tip of diamond to shatter it. I would suggest to put the braces nevertherless. Better sure than sorry

What fish medication is in a UKAPS cupbaord?

Keep a routine maintenance, make sure your water is from a reputable source. Also make sure to feed the right food for the right fish. This should keep the diseases and parasites away. It s better to prevent than cure.

    Eheim 2213 Noise

If your impeller is ok, check if the shaft is not broken. If both are ok, I would suggest to lube the shaft with vaseline and see it does the tricks. If not, I would suggest to get it exchange, no filter should be behaving like a JCB digger!

    Eheim 2213 Noise

LancsRick may be right. Are there any leaks? Check the impeller cover also, if there are no damages, I would suggest to clean the o ring to ensure that it is smooth all round.

    Lighting Help

If it is planted tank, then you will need high output led. It might end up very expensive for the size of your tank. T5 would be more ideal, but again it is a matter of opinion

Parasites in the filter! Lots of them, help!

Hi It looks like planaria to me.( again I may be wrong, struggling with the videos). If that is the case, you should pay attention to your substrate. If they are in your tank and thriving, they must be getting foods from somewhere e.g dead fish/animals or plants or uneaten foods trapped in...

    Nuisence snails

I would suggest before tearing everything apart, why don't you introduce some snail eating fishes like clown loaches, skunk botia or tiger loaches. I am sure they will get rid of the snails without having a cocktail of chemicals in the tank. Sak Affordable aquarium and fish tank cleaning and...
