Jewel hoods, along with most standard hoods are hard to modify, simply because of where the lights are located. I'd stick with what you have, keep your reflectors clean and given proper CO2 and all the game, you should be able to grow whatever you like IMO.

Thanks mate :D The external ballast is cool and the unit is still well heavy without it, I like that though, just like the iPhone and stuff, it "feels" well made. It should match the new setup even better, well excited!

When i got my new halide and T5 unit, it was supplied with marine tubes and man they were blue! I used them anyway for two months to no ill affect, growth was just the same but it didn't "look" as nice.

Nice idea, Hagen use them on the now discontinued Osaka. I found them to be a little distracting so i'd recommend a background if you go down that route.

Aquariums Ltd made this.... Failing that, you could just rest it on the tank rims using the feet supplied...

Thats a great idea, i had some MVs and whilst they worked very well and certainly grew my plants, i would have preferred a whiter light. Shame i got rid of them now :roll:

IT should be fine, just make sure your CO2 is good and maybe turn it up a bit, your gonna be doing more pruning now though :lol:

Congrats on your bargain although i'd be careful with that lighting till you have CO2, too much light and not enough CO2 equals ALGAE! I'd run half the lighting if you can, if not, have a short photoperiod, about 5 hours. It'd be a shame to be nailed by algae before you've even really started.

Aquariums Ltd will make you a wicked brace, i have one for our four footer. It's stainless steel box section which runs up one side of the cabinet and tank, over the top then back down the other side. Just screw it to the sides of your cabinet and voila! Suspend your luminaire from said brace :D

I used to use 2 Amazon Days combined with 2 Special Plants. It was without question the best combination i've ever used. As for whether or not the plants preferred it i don't know, i certainly did though.

I can't see why it would hurt to pop them on for an hour first thing, 7am. It's not good practice but it could work, i can't imagine it would cause any damage as such?

Same, my arcadia ones are about 2mm clear acrylic, same for the Boyu ones.

Fossilised wood - the greatest piece of hardscape that money can buy i recon. TGM have loads, get down there and grab some before it all goes LOL. And yes, that what's in there lol. The MV's are warm i must say but i don't heat my tank so it's kinda benificial, if i feel it getting a bit hot...

well up untill yesterday i was accidentally running 10 hrs :shock: on a brand new tank with aquasoil :roll: only had a bit of algae so checked it straight away and i'd set the timers up wrong, doh. I'm gonna run one for 8 hrs and the other for about 5 hrs in the middle, i'll see how it goes...

We'll see, it'll take some tweeking and NUFF co2 but i recon i can handle it. Watch this space....

Here they are, i really like them, the look of the luminaire it's self and the color of the lamps. I've raised the rear one up a bit so you can see them both. The Arcadia suspension kit is genius!

Well i've suspended them from the ceiling and they look awesome. The colour is teffific, there is currently one pink and one white bulb in there and i'm more than happy with it, better than the colours from my Dennerle T5's IMO, well cuffed. Anyone want an 80cm arcadia T5 luminaire? :)

Arcadia do a 60cm and it's good. I think it's early 100w. EQJ trading on ebay do one too but it's not quite as good, still good though and it's relatively inexpensive. :wink:

I'd change mine every 12 months, i still keep the old tubes coz i'm a horder! There is a notable difference between an old one and a new one.

I used this on my 60cm and never struggled to grow anything viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2236 I got it off ebay for like 20GBP Nice one.

hiya, i had a vision 180 and an 80cm arcadia luminaire in preperation for my new 80cm tank and the luminaire with it's legs all the way out will not fit on the edges of the vision so it would have to be suspended. I'd go for a 90cm luminaire, the tubes in the 80cm are only 55cm long and 100w all...
