    starlings formations

Fantastic formations. Our school was invaded by Fieldfares last week. I've never seen so many! They have now moved on as they have stripped all the berries around school from the shrubs!

    Flower macro

Very nice Cyclamen George! With my lack of knowledge I can't comment on the quality of the photo other than to say that it looks very sharp mate!

    Photo's for PFK cover

See I only really used to buy it for the cichlid articles!!!! Love Mary Bailey's writing. I also love reading the marine articles as I love the high tech methods they use and like thinking about how some of those could be applied to planted tanks, a systemised fish house and my next...

    Pseudotropheus Crabbro & cucumber

You obviously need to give it a good talking to Aaron, it hasn't been reading the books! Doesn't it know it's meant to be cleaning the parasites off catfish and then switching colours to steal their eggs?!!! Very nice fish.

A Few Pictures of My Fish and Their Homes

As it's only temporary I think you'd be fine (unless you're really overstocked already :D ). Just up the water changes for a while. I think you'll find they pair after a few weeks, if not sooner.

A Few Pictures of My Fish and Their Homes

Why don't you ask him if you can take a small group and then return the spares. Your original male will almost certainly pair up with the female that takes his fancy and then you'll be able to remove the rest and return them to the shop.

A Few Pictures of My Fish and Their Homes

Those Laetacara look even better than when you posted pictures last time Johnny. Any signs of spawning activity yet? Wharf had them in stock again and I nearly bought some, but went for Double Red Aggies instead.

    Outside the wire...

Wow George. Nice shots but doesn't half bring home the reality of your current situation! I assumed you were far from any sticky situations (well as much as that is possible in a conflict zone obviously) so wasn't expecting to see you weilding an SA-80! Not a normal day I hope? Keep your...

    Canon eos 450d

I really can't comment on the pictures other than saying they're better than most of mine but I did just want to say that your Oto isn't an Oto! It's a Chinese Sucking Loach or Gyrinocheilus aymonieri. They get much bigger than Otos and are no way near as good algae eaters IME.

A walk up Abba Falls with brother Crawford.

I'd be up for a nice walking session, but I'll leave the photography to you guys!!!

    Glowlight Tetras with Ixus 75

Some wild populations look similar to Chocolates, but others look very similar to Golds! Try the 'Cap Esterias' strains if you want some cracking fish!

    Glowlight Tetras with Ixus 75

Do hate to be picky here but the chocolates usually seen have been selcted just like the golds because they've been in the hobby so long. You want wild australe try and get some with newer collection codes! There are eggs often available on Aquabid. The golds are cracking fish though and a...

    Apistogramma Baenschi

Depends what the water conditions are and what rainbows you're talking about. For standard larger Melanotaenia in hard water; then no. However smaller species, such as M.praecox, Iriatherina werneri or any Pseudomugil spp. could work in softer, slightly acidic water. I've got Pseudomugil...

    Apistogramma Baenschi

Gorgeous, especially the female - I love the barring. Have they bred for you?

    The Illusion of Color

Once you throw colour blindness into the mix too you can see why I find this so frustrating!!!!! In the side-by-side picutres, the corrected ones look 'worse' to me (darker and less clear), probably because I have no Red cones to see red light! Great write up though Clive, cheers for the...

A Few Pics from my Low Tech Tanks

A Few Pics from my Low Tech Tanks

It looks like a Hygrophila. As to the type, it could be lacustris, but that isn't very common over here, or a narrow leaf form of another species.

A Few Pics from my Low Tech Tanks

Love the wood in the second one down - where did you get it??? Also what's the Apisto? And a nice collection of different cories too.

Learner photographer sets about his 60 litre

Just very, very soft water at the moment with some peat in the filter. I have to say that getting the pH that low wasn't intentional, I just try to keep the water very soft for the fish and then when testing it with a newly calibrated pH meter it was that low! I've changed some of the water...

Learner photographer sets about his 60 litre

I'm sure I read of somone breeding them and some wild bettas from similar waters and saying he had problems keeping them long term and breeding them unless the water was very acidic. If I remember rightly a pH of 4 was used... Apparently at that acidity many pathogenic bacteria are unable to...

    Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Great photos Dave of such an atmospheric place. It chills me just thinking that people were capable of this... The website is chilling too (Auschwitz Website) and well worth spending 20 minutes reading through, especially the history section. Makes your blood run cold.

    My Vision 180

Very nice mix of colours and leaf shapes! Like the Nymphaea too, what species is it? I also like the DIY ideas, espeically the top up - like George said more details! :D
