Why do we aim for 30 ppm CO2?

Yes, once you have your c02 at a stable level, leave it at that. It should be off at night, this is why we use solenoids. Then you don't have to touch it at all.
  2. Ian Holdich

Why do we aim for 30 ppm CO2?

Just don't touch the regulator! Lol
  3. Ian Holdich

Why do we aim for 30 ppm CO2?

And also keep your c02 consistent...I've found this probably the most important part.

Does anyone own a JBL m001 regulator?

Brilliant regs, I've had mine for 5years now, with the solenoid in place. There's been water leaked back into the solenoid and it's still going! I'd buy another again, if this one failed. You can't beat German quality.

    Best Diffuser?

The 'real' bazooka link is up there ^^^ You'll find that you won't need more than 1-2 bps with an atomiser.

    Best Diffuser?

The easy aqua are ceramic. I have also used these about they are ok, they just last to long before the seals go. This is when they will produce lager bubbles. The bazooka is a better construction IMO. I used one for a few months with no problem, when I only got a month out of an easy aqua one...

    Best Diffuser?

I think you can get bazookas from C02art, one of our sponsors, for a very good price at the moment. I have used these in the past and they are brilliant diffusers. Precision CO2 Atomizer Bazooka Diffuser for Aquarium (up to 120L) 55mm | CO2Art.co.uk - CO2 Aquarium Specialists

    UP Inline..stupid or unlucky?

Sometimes I find certain regs like women...they get a little sensitive if we're all fingers and thumbs.
  12. Ian Holdich

    UP Inline..stupid or unlucky?

Yeah, you'll get better control of the c02 at 2.5 bar.
  13. Ian Holdich

    UP Inline..stupid or unlucky?

They do tend to get a little water in them ime. The still work ok though.
  14. Ian Holdich

    One for Clive.

I agree HC does appear to like carbos, I just wondered whether there was any 'actual' evidence of this being the case. I have read of HC melting with spot dosing, as viktor describes. I stopped using carbos a while back...due to worry s on health.

    One for Clive.

Could you provide evidence for this? Preferably not anadotal.

    O2 through a co2 diffuser

I'm not sure the pressures can be equated to lph vs bar. Tbh, I don't think you'll find an air pump that will cut it.
  19. Ian Holdich

    O2 through a co2 diffuser

The pressure in an air pump is no where near the pressure in a c02 cyclinder, here where the problem lies. Why no just buy an airs tone, they're cheap enough.

    Liquid carbon optimized time?

Sorry, I didn't realise you was dosing carbonated water...there's your answer.
  21. Ian Holdich

    Liquid carbon optimized time?

It shouldn't really pearl from LC alone. As it doesn't work in the way that pressurised c02 does. The plant doesn't have to work as it does either with LC, from my understanding the LC mimics the already converted sugars that pressurised produces. My guess is that the plants are using the water...

    co2 tubing vs air tubing?

Normal air tubing also corrodes a lot easier when c02 is run through.it. This is another reason c02 tubing is a little tuffer.

Question for JBL reg + UP Atomizer users

I personally wouldn't go higher than 3 Bar, but if there's gas going through, I'd leave it set at where it is, as long it's not above 3 Bar.

Question for JBL reg + UP Atomizer users

As Hogan says, you will see the needle increase as you're turning the Allan key. You must have it switched on though!
  25. Ian Holdich

Question for JBL reg + UP Atomizer users

It's the little black cap right in the middle of the silver part of the reg. The old style jbl reg doesn't have this function though, this is the one with the green dials.
  26. Ian Holdich

Question for JBL reg + UP Atomizer users

If its the old reg, you can't adjust the working pressure...if its the new style jbl reg, you can, by removing the little plastic cover on the front of the reg and using an allan key turn the pressure up, while the co2 is on. Do it very slowly though! Ps if your struggling, ill pop some pics up.
  27. Ian Holdich

Arggghhh! Just about had enough with my Intense Bazooka

It also looks to me that the working pressure can't be upped on that reg.
  28. Ian Holdich

Arggghhh! Just about had enough with my Intense Bazooka

sometimes (only sometimes), the solenoid can shut if there is too much pressure, i don't think this is the case though. I had one of these and it took 3BAR for it to give a decent output.
  29. Ian Holdich

    Bar/psi?

1 bar = 14.503 psi So, you have just over 2 Bar there.

    Fe regulator help

Hey Deano, the second one is the better one as it has an adjustable working pressure valve on it. This will come in handy if you want to run an inline diffuser, as they need a higher Bar to work. The first link doesn't do that.

The difference between atomizers and reactors?

there's a lot of anecdotal evidence around saying which one is best, there was a discussion of TBR about it, i'll see if i can find it. I'm unsure whether any conclusions were drawn from it though lol!
  33. Ian Holdich

Does high tech necessitate regular water changes?

IME large water changes are needed for a good few weeks until you hit that 'balance'. Most high tech tank will suffer surface scum in the first few weeks, again until you hit that 'balance'. Cheap Co2 reactors

I suppose you really wouldn't need you bubbles chopping would you, if it's going through the media in the filter this would disperse the bubbles. Yes, i meant mist, as i'm getting a bit fed up with mist, i'm finding it a bit of a ball ache when looking at my tank due to that 'cloud'. I might...

    Atomizers

that is exactly what happened to the ones i had. The UP ones haven't done this as yet (5 months on)
  43. Ian Holdich

    Atomizers

i also agree with that afterthought.
  44. Ian Holdich

    Atomizers

Yeah the seals went on them all after 2 months. They were still workable, but not good enough. I have also put an UP one on the LFS scape i did and that's also still going great guns. I would deffo be buying another UP one in the future when/if this one gives up.
  45. Ian Holdich

    Atomizers

i used the Easy Aqua one and they lasted about 2 months, i had 3 in all. I wasn't very impressed by them, they leaked around the seal, i now use the UP version from Tankscape and find them a lot better, i'm still on my first one after 5 months now. They produce smaller bubbles as well. this is mine

I'm SO OVER co2 Its Not Funny !

cheers Chris, i only used my inline for a few weeks and gave it away. I prefer the in tank atomisers, although they bother produce the same end product. As for cleaning, i just soak for a couple of hours in a WEAK bleach solution and then into some water with some dechlor for an hour.
  47. Ian Holdich

I'm SO OVER co2 Its Not Funny !

it's a JBL reg, there are 2 JBL regs on the market (that i'm aware of) and both you can change the working pressures on.
  48. Ian Holdich

I'm SO OVER co2 Its Not Funny !

flow is one of the reasons i have never forked out for one, they are renowned for cutting flow right down. The inline/in tank atomisers are great IME.
  49. Ian Holdich

I'm SO OVER co2 Its Not Funny !

sounds like you should have upped the pressure on the inline diffuser...they do drop the bubble rate if the working pressure isn't good enough. As for the reactor, i can't comment as i have never used one, but i'm sure you have to leave the bioballs in there for full effect.

    CO2 & Light Demands

the T5 lights will give a better PAR rating, so in turn will put extra demand on the plants. This will increase growth rates as long as the C02 is good enough (which after following your thread, i'm sure it is), and the rest will follow. Incidentally i'm running the same lighting on my tan as...

    Reliability of Drop Checkers

you need to up the water changes Woot. You have exactly the same lighting and set up as me. I don't get fast growth (which is quite nice after having a tank where that plants went mental). A 50% weekly will make a difference.
  52. Ian Holdich

    recommend a co2 diffuser.

they just need a couple of hours in a weak bleach solution and then a dip in some dechlor. Very easy.
  53. Ian Holdich

    recommend a co2 diffuser.

I'm using one of these at the moment http://www.tankscape.co.uk/index.php?ro ... name=G-024 these are the 'proper' UP ones, and seem to last better than others. I have had one running for 3 months without any probs (no broken seals etc etc)

    Co2 atomiser

I have started get them in from China, they are only a couple of quid...you have to wait for them, but at least you have spares in the cupboard. I'm on my 3rd or 4th now. I have found the smaller ones last longer than the bigger ones for some reason.

    UP Atomiser Leaking

sometimes it's best to take advise people give you on the forums... Ribbed pipes don't do well with anything 'inline', if you google 'inline and fluval ribbed pipes' you'll come up with hundreds of people that have had this problem. Get some new pipes and everything should be fine.

how high have you got the pressure? i also think you have hit the nail on the head there, regarding the Achilles heal. I have yet to find glass that is as good as these though.

    Co2 atomiser

i also had this and it was a leak from an NRV. I also had a seal go after a soak in bleach, i have decided to get these now from Hong Kong, the are only a fiver each from HK, so you can get 3 for the price of 1.

    Atom Diffuser Issue

i had a problem with mine to begin with...i had to soak it in bleach for 14 hours before it worked. It has been fine for about 3 weeks, now one of the seals has gone and it's producing massive bubbles. I won't be buying one again.
