Anyone have land Hermits?? - Advice, help and info please

Hi, I've been thinking about a land hermit crab setup (a crabitat!) but could do with some info first. I read they are sociable and don't like tone alone, but how many do you need for them to be happy, is there a minimum number to create a happy hermit population? Given this, what size tank do...

What is this snail??? - Can anyone identify?

So its a pond snail? I was worried in case it was anything that is going to eat my live plants. Do they get big or breed like crazy or anything? Already got a nice population of MTS, don't wanna be overrun with these...

I know I have loads of MTS, as I've added them myself on purpose, and know what they look like.... here's one of my big ones, about 25mm long :) But I recently added some live plants from the LFS, and since then I've seen a couple of different snails, that I dont know what they are...

Cool, some baby shrimps on the way :D :D :D They just gotta hide well enough to avoid the tetra's once they hatched!! Is there anything I can do to help or assist their development or growth? - I put some crushed crab cuisine, and brine shrimp onve or twice a week, is that ok for newly...

Shrimp with eggs??? - With pics and video!!

Doing my weekly w/c today, and saw one of the shrimp sitting under a leaf, with what looks like loads of eggs under it. I was always under the idea that with RCS, the females were bright red/pink coloured, and the males were a darker, browner colour?? But it's a darker coloured one which I...

Yippee - I have some MTS!! (4 flavours!)

But my snails dont quack like a duck, are they supposed to!! :?  Ovovivipary looks like what it could be then http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ovoviviparity Sounds like the eggs are kept until hatching, then the larvae transform outside the mothers body. BTW, how do shrimps...

Yippee - I have some MTS!! (4 flavours!)

Egmel - o they have eggs, but don't actually 'lay' them as such and leave them, but hold onto them until they hatch, is that right? I suppose thats effectively an equivalent of livebearing really! Thomas, I got them from the snailshop (http://www.snailshop.co.uk) have a look at MTS in the...

Should I add MTS?? - Yeay or Nay?

Oh I see, didn't realise they survived out of water for transportation. Well, my MTS didn't arrive today as I'd hoped, the post must be a little slow :( Out of interest, how long can they survive out of water during shipping? They were due to be shipped on tuesday, but didn't come today...

Should I add MTS?? - Yeay or Nay?

LOL LD!  OK, so I should have some MTS arriving in the post sometime today (our post is not very reliable for what time it will be!) but I've just thought of something...... Do you have to acclimatise them to the tank water as you do when adding fish? Same kind of thing - Hang...

Yeah I was after some, LD was trying to dig a few up for me.... No problem LD, Spalding has kindly offered to send me a few out, but thank you too for offering and looking for some :D Yours are obviously happy in there and don't want to leave. Maybe they heard of your plans to send them away...

Should I add MTS?? - Yeay or Nay?

So the general feeling is yeay! I'm seriously thinking of adding some then - but do they escape from the tank, or do they like to stay under water? Just been looking at snailshop.co.uk and they have standard MTS, Mahogany, and Dominican MTS..... Are they basically all the same thing (regards...

Should I add MTS?? - Yeay or Nay?

I'm thinking of adding some MTS to my tank, and have read lots of mixed reviews about wether they are a pest or a benefit. So I'm just posting this to try and get a broader and more specific sense of wether they are good or bad. I have a 60L well mature tank, with 5 Neons, 6 Glowlights and ~6...

    Cherry Shrimp Behaviour?

Hmmm, could be normal then. Incidentally, I'm not running CO2 or dosing with anything for plants. I've only just added some live moss and a little fern yesterday, and I'm planning on just letting them grow without the use of any fert or CO2. Oh yeah, I have discovered how much cherry shrimp...

    Cherry Shrimp Behaviour?

I've had my cherries a couple of weeks or so, and from the small ~half inch juveniles they were when I got them, they have now grown up a bit, with my biggest female being as big as my glowlight tetras now. The last couple of days I've seen her do something strange - or is it normal? She kind...

    Malasyan Trumpet Snails

Cheers, I doubt I'll need it then. My pH is consistantly betwen 7 - 8, and going by colour, nearer to 8 than 7, so probably more like 7.5 - 8 I am also in a quite hard water area, and my test kit measures KH and GH to be 180ppm Is KH calcium hardness btw??

Shrimp feeding problems - any ideas???

Aah, I see - I have Red Cherry Shrimps (and I now see I got your name wrong too; 'thebullit', not 'thebuilt' LOL  ) Thanks for info guys, I thought there might be plenty of general food, as it is a well matured tank, lots of algae ( ) and I've also got a marimo ball in for them...

    Malasyan Trumpet Snails

Does anyone on here feel the need to use the 'snailstrong' liquid calcium stuff (as seen on snailshop) for MTS, or add anything extra or specific in the way of food/supplements?? Or is just a case of put them in and leave them to get on with it, and feed rest of aquarium inhabitants as normal??

Shrimp feeding problems - any ideas???

the built - Yeah, its shrimps we're talking about. I'd not thought of cuttlefish, but then I don't know where I would get some anyway, and would want to be sure it was safe and disease/chemical free. I did manage to give them a bit of a crab cuisine pellet yesterday. I placed it right in...

Shrimp feeding problems - any ideas???

Hi, a longish post, but please bear with me..... Tank is a 60L with 5 Neon & 6 Glowlight Tetras, and in the last couple of weeks have added 6 cherry shrimp. Wonderful little creatures, good to watch, but I also got them to partially help with the build up of algae on the tank decor/rocks etc...

    Malasyan Trumpet Snails

Aah..... I might put some in then! I have a gravel substrate, can they burrow in that? Do they also eat detritus and any 'crap' in there? Out of interest, how big do they grow? I suppose if they get out of hand, I can just remove a load and leave a few in. I had a problem when I first got my...

    Malasyan Trumpet Snails

I thought everyone regarded MTS as a pest?? Thats the impression I got from being on another forum (fishforums.net) and that most wanted rid of them but that they were too hard to remove once in a tank due to their rapid breeding. When I bought my cherry shrimp, there were quite a few MTS in...
