    Cryptocoryne sp.'Flamingo'

flamengo by Radik2, on Flickr a bit in algae but it is shrimp tank so no heavy fert or co2. Substrate is sand. It is 10cm tall now and this is just 1/4 of pot other 3 portions are planted elsewhere.

    Plants That I Cannot Grow

I do not know those power glo tubes are they white or pink? I use tubes for 3GBP daylight 6500K White. Really try not to use frogbit and add some easy carbo every 2nd day if you see some algae then increase co2 levels if you already doze EI you have to balance it in tank. Spyder, pogo helferi...

    Plants That I Cannot Grow

There are some super easy plants Hygrophila polysperma Limnophila sessiliflora. I think you have light issue if you dump enhough EI and Co2 and not enough light bottom leaves will melt as you described or bottom at the substrate plants will melt as well. For example HC cuba is best at 60-70PAR...

    cant grow HC

Sand is not issue. Your surface agitation is quite high. It takes a lot co2 injection to get proper co2 level for this agitation. I would not trust drop checker either. Then make sure you get good light on the substrate, not too much not too little. 26cm from surface is quite high not sure what...

Plant melt in new set up. Transition, C02 or LCP?

You can just add one more 11W-18W light and see. Overall tank brightness might mislead lot of people, they assume it is enough but it is not. These tanks are not made for planted aquariums I guess. Maybe for goldfish and plastic plant. I can show you how to kill moss under very low light where...

Plant melt in new set up. Transition, C02 or LCP?

Re: Plant melt in new set up. 18W for 40cm is nothing it is like pets at home tank 11W light for 30cm tank which is very weak. You are getting maybe 12-15 par at substrate that's for crypts and anubias only or no co2 tank easy plants.

Plant melt in new set up. Transition, C02 or LCP?

Re: Plant melt in new set up. could be light a bit. I think 24-36w is minimum as tank is high so would say 36w you have to test. Then co2 as well. With gas co2 you would have no issues for sure. You cam make diy for 50-60 600g bottle.

    Plant deficiency?

Eustralis Stellata is difficult plant it needs co2, good ferts and medium light at least. Although there are stems you can grow without co2 under low light I am not sure Stellata is one of them, never tried it this way. But other stems do well but really you need low light and at least some...

    Nano stem plant ideas please

Yes and some stem plants are only worth in in-vitro cups for the reason that normal pots has very long stems as they arrive, They are hard to keep emersed so mostly end up submersed then they are too tall to handle after a while. So you need fresh tropica stock. In-vitro is like amanos wabikusa...

    HC... what a pain

Yes thanks for advice, ordered Koralia Nano as my 900lph filter in 80L tank is certainly not enough. Will post success or failure later :)
  16. R

    HC... what a pain

Yes flow could be problem I have lily pipe positioned from left to right at the front of the tank so most flow going to the back of the tank. In early case I had just pipe from back to front beaming flow to the front glass. So yes you are right it could be flow issue.

    HC... what a pain

May I add my HC cuba bits? :) This is after 25days. Planted 2cm aside in group of 3 stems. Lighting was 2x24w daylight 6hour a day. You can notice it is going upwards a bit so I am increasing co2 and I hope after trim it flattens. Also now for test I am using grolux tubes from yesterday which...

    HC... what a pain

Hey Antipo I just did some PAR measures for 4x24W 60cm. This is all pond solution light 2x 24W Daylight tubes on sides of fixture - PAR on substrate front 65-70, middle 110 2x 24W Daylight tubes in middle of fixture - PAR on substrate front 100, middle 110 So it seems reflectors do a lot I...

    HC... what a pain

Yes I agree it is per tank you have to tune it to your levels. But definitely drop light down. I found a need to install dimming ballast to my 4x24W .. I am using only 2x24 and in one part of scape it is just too much light I would like to drop it a little down. The best way is to have PH meter...

    HC... what a pain

then your only option is drop light. Besides, I have yellow drop checker and fish and shrimp are fine :) never seen them gasping.. you just have to tune it right.

    Iwagumi using UG

I could grow it in seachem sand and also in amazonia the key is to have low KH and keep UG in pots submersed for a while to adapt and only then plant to substrate. I think this is one of few plants requiring low KH to thrive. I used RO water in noth ways. It was doing better in amazonia because...

"vitro cup" plants. anyone tried them?

Price is definitely cheaper comparing to standard potted plants such as Tropica and as was said you get bigger amount comparing to standard pot. I've seen it myself.

    Struggling with HC

It is funny my HC was growing even in no CO2 low light tank but ultra slow. Not sure what your issues are. It is also very easy plant to grow emersed. I can grow it just with a bit of water on plastic tray and time to time fert dozing. Also switching from Excel to pressurized Co2 will put HC on...

    Blyxa Japonica trimming

Do not trim this plant, rather pull up, cut child stems from main stem and replant back.
  33. R

    Trimming Utricularia Graminifolia

My green neons did trimming for me to such extent it stop growing and I had to remove it from tank. So maybe once a while it is ok.

    Blyxa Melt?

Good Luis, let us know your success with it. It is my favorite plant, Crypt melt is probably myth as I never had it as well when planting new plants but last week I run out of co2 for 2 days and some crypts instantly suffered melting. I have crypt green, brown and tropica melted, parva and...

    Blyxa Melt?

I am just saying if you receive plant in half melt then no magic will help and she can do that while travels. You have been lucky receiving it healthy I was not. Even when transported within London 1 day delivery plant suffered some melt during transport. Leaves are too fragile. If I got it...
  36. R

    Blyxa Melt?

Fine but this plant is very picky about transport and aclimatization. Once it travels to you and melt on the way you have low chance. I ordered at least 3 batches until I got normal one from local aquarist.
  37. R

    Blyxa Melt?

They will not probably recover, some leaves should have left. Time will tell. Once I got from 12 stems only 4 key to success is to get a lot of blyxa and from various sources and some will survive and adapt.

    Tiger louts

No runners mate only flowers then if you are lucky you get seeds. But this is such a huge plant and bulbs are cheap you do not need to be worried about propagation.
  39. R

    Tiger louts

You can't lotus needs bulb. Cuttings will die. Propagation through seeds only.

A problem with alternanthera reineckii 'purple'

I am also not expert but I noticed with my Heteranthera zosterifolia when I doubled fert dosing she put less roots out of stem and also when she got hold well in substrate with nice long roots. On other hand my hygro is doing that all the time but I read it is just how it grows.
  43. R

    Blyxa do not root

Blyxa seems to be slow grover being you I would keep it. It has no runners so it is low maintenance plant. Sometimes I do wish it grow faster so I could plant more all over the tank. I am using liquid carbo at the moment only. Next week I should install bottled Co2 and more powerful filter with...
  44. R

    Blyxa do not root

Hard to say. It is tricky plant. I have blyxa and I replanted some recently and just pushed it deeper to the substrate so main stem is covered. It is doing well since. I have 2-3mm gravel.

New set up - dying plants

I know that feeling I had same but now plants are flourishing. I am also using easy liquid carbo and I would say they are growing too fast now I have to trim them every 2 weeks. Btw add some oto's fish they will help you eating decaying plants and won't touch healthy if your tank is cycled...

New set up - dying plants

Most of plants are grown above water. When you plant them to tank most of old leaves may just die out and new leaves can be completely different submersed than emerged. Also plant just need some time to adjust to new parameters. For example my blyxa japonica completely melted away and after 2-3...
