As above: if it's not blue before you put it in the D/C and/or tank, there is a problem with the solution. Contact AE they are very helpful :!:

    CO2 or not?

I tried the Tetra Optima system whilst I was waiting for a new reg/solenoid with poor results. I wasted £12 on it  . If you're going to add CO2, go for a proper injected system. This will cost more initially but you won't look back. See: viewtopic.php?f=37&t=7776 Don't worry about the...

    CO2 circulation

Have you got 4dkh solution ready? When the drop checker arrives this is one of the first things you will need for accurate readings. Depending on where you bought it it will usually arrive with a bromo blue (or equivalent reagent) solution but I'm yet to find any supplier of D/Cs that provide...

I know the stuff you mean. Try http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Co2-Proof-Tubing- ... 29fe0cbef0 I got mine from Hong Kong and it's has been doing the job for a couple of years no problem! :) Edit: a minute too late then!

    Stainless steel diffuser

Looks good, I've managed to break a couple of glass diffusers trying to clean them. So the stainless steel one would solve that problem. I now use an inline Boyu which is efficient but does throw a lot of bubbles around the tank. I think a reactor could be the way forward if only I had the...

    Bubbles per second!

My last 2kg FE lasted 9 months (almost to the day) on a 60ltr set-up at a normal injection rate. You can do the maths! If you manage to get over two months out of it you should be pleased (or under injecting) in my experience. Good luck and keep us informed!

cant decide which system to use.

I agree with chris1004, I use a Fe setup (reg, solenoid and CO2 tubing from ebay). On my 60 ltr tank the 2kg FE lasted 8 months, I don't believe you can work this is pro rata for 240ltr, so you should get at least 2 or maybe more like 3 months from a 2 kg FE. Setting up a FE system may sound a...

    2kg C02 > 240L = 2 weeks?

I suppose you know by now there has to be a problem. I have a 2kg FE on 60ltrs and the last one went for 9 months ( keeping it in the green with solenoid ! So as others say 240ltrs 3 months, sounds about right. You must have a leak somewhere, no re-filler would bother short-changing you on the...

Would this kit be a good buy for the price?

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. But depending on your set-up and requirements could be OK(ish). I think there are more economical ways to inject CO2 in the long run. So my opinion (and just my personal opinion) is "NO" Get a reg and solenoid, bite the bullet spend some money now (if...

    4dkh solution help

Don't use it neat. Just 2 or 3 drops will suffice mixed with water, preferable distilled, but this seems hard to come by these days. Good thinking, I've been there, done that and bought the t-shirt. links and pics is a good idea
  19. Simon D

Fire extinguisher setup, is this lot ok?

Yep, simple to remove and attach airline direct to needle valve. I would recommend a B/C (in-line) or you could just watch the diffuser doing it's job. A drop checker could take over an hour to show a realistic reading on what that diffuser is actually doing and that could be very harmful to the...

Exploding solenoid valves (Magnetic switch block)

Very unlikely that it would damage 8mm float glass. It would have to be quite a big explosion, but if it was to hit something softer (like your face) then this would couse damage. It must be stressed, that although Acrantophis sustained an injury this is very much the exception to the rule. (I...

Exploding solenoid valves (Magnetic switch block)

You're not the first (or the last) to want to hear the solenoid click in and out, unfortunately as you've discovered, not a good idea to get too close. I remember sparking up my FE the first time and the amount of fear that went through me, but you wouldn't expect a solenoid to explode in...

In line diffusers V stand alone diffuser

I don't understand! If there is CO2 in the water then the plants can surely use that whether that is visable to them or not. Do you mean that the CO2 in a "mist form" would attach itself to the plants and enable better photosynthesis? Going to have to lie own now and think about that one.

    rhinox 2000 for 260l tank

In line diffusers V stand alone diffuser

Why would you want any mist in your tank? I'd prefer clear water that has the right amount of CO2 diffused into it!

In line diffusers V stand alone diffuser

I run a stand alone ceramic diffuser and am going to upgrade this to an in-line reactor! I think the reactor will give much better absobsion of the CO2. Ed Seeley has provided this insight: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4149

    housing FE

Easiest way is to chain it up(which is recommended even if in a cabinet) this will prevent it from being knocked/pulled over. If you are putting it between tank cabinet and desk, I would recommend fitting a piece of wood, or similar type cover, over the front to deny access and also for...

    Check valve

Maybe I should get rid of my chinese bought c/v and use a simple plastic one. What's you're findings on the glass in-line bubble counter (again chinese)? Well, ok, aquaticmagic. I don't particularily like it as some water goes back into the c/v, which does it's job and stops it, but then there...

Bubble counter. Is it fixed on correctly?

I've got the same set-up and got rid of the provided bubble counter and used an in-line version with check valve. Something like this: This enabled me to have the valve dials vertical. The CO2 tube fits straight onto the reg and have the b/c and c/v mounted on the side of the tank in full...

I've got the same reg and removed the attached bubble counter to favour an inline b/c with check valve that is veiwable on the outside of the tank. CO2/ Diffuser not working! please help.

Yeh, got you! I was incorrectly referring to the brass and glass bubble counter (as a needle valve) that comes with the aquaticmagic reg/sol. I have now realised the error of my ways and thank you for correcting me  So the needle valve is part and parcel of the reg! Is that right? Mine...

I just posted this on another thread and may (or may not) be of help: "If you use a peice of 1or 2" cardboard tubing (from inside wrapping paper or kitchen roll for example), place this against your ear and then follow the entire set-up from reg as far as you can get to tank you may be able to...

CO2 Kit for My OSAKA 320

Switching the flow on/off is the same as having a solenoid do this for you. The only problem is are you going to be there to do this one hour before lights on/off every day? This is why most prefer the solenoid approach. Some just leave the CO2 on 24/7. I would highly recommend the investment...

CO2/ Diffuser not working! please help.

I've got the same set-up with my reg/sol (mines aquaticmagic). I developed a leak on the bubble counter (needle valve) that comes with the reg and fortunately could hear it. I removed it and fitted an in-line b/c like this: Note: the b/c check valve configuration shown is the wrong way round...

Yes, 4dkh with Nutrafin pH test (Bromo Blue?) from AE. I'll reduce the amount of CO2 injection and see if this helps. Although I'm only just getting a greenish colouring in the D.C. I found the Rhinox glass diffuser remarkably easy to break too  lol. I was just setting up my first FE conversion, a couple of weeks ago, and the damned thing fell off the end of the CO2 tube onto a nice soft carpet (all of about 18") and CRACK. I had to wait until the next morning...

Which first? Bubble Counter or Check Valve

Thanks Andy and Behold. I thought it was wrong and yes I understand that the water could get back to the reg and more importantly the solinoid so will have to go through the motions of reversing my setup! Oh well, all a learning curve. Thanks again for your replies.

Which first? Bubble Counter or Check Valve

Should the check valve be before the bubble counteror after? I fitted mine as per aquaticmagic's pic: Problem: some water has got into the check valve and every bubble that goes through the valve pushes the valve up (as it nearly floats) and makes a noise as it clicks back down. If I was to...

Drop Checker Test - 'Teardrop' versus 'Chameleon'

Thanks Mark Cheers Andy, I've ordered the 4dkh and Hagen Bromo Blue from AE. I had seen the link on their page but wasn't sure if there was any difference between the brands, so was just trying to source some API as you have done such a brilliant job of testing it! Many thanks
