Not impressed with Pollen type diffusers

Off course it is more efficient, almost 100%. With any pollen type you always see bubbles reach the surface so this means you don't get 100%. (closer to 50% I would guess!)

    Question for ceg4048

I hate stepping into heated discussions but I think I can explain why you people disagree. You both discussing similar but different topics. Jose is saying: I got 4 ppm of CO2 and want to go to 30 ppm of CO2, will my pH always drop 1 point, no matter what KH. So lets take a KH of 1, check the...

Kickstarter oco meter, any experience yet?

Ah, I was only looking at kickstarter. At kickstarter he always replies within a week. He also has an account (and thread) on aquaticplantcentral forum. Perhaps you can reach him there...

Kickstarter oco meter, any experience yet?

Where do you see the buying option? I do see that it looks like your still able to pledge. Not sure whether this is possible, I don't think so...

Kickstarter oco meter, any experience yet?

I funded the kickstarter project, so I get updates about the progress. For now, he's still building them. He had 4 prototypes tested himself and they work perfect he told me. You can set the tolerance of the CO2 controller to 1ppm. Calibration is done outside (so no calibration fluids or...

EOTD / Dual Stage Regulators - The Great Myth

I think EOTD only happens on large tanks. I've two exactly the same regulators, one on a 20L and one on my 400L. With over 10 times the bubble count EOTD on my 400L happens in 1 day. On the 20L in two weeks. Enough time to notice CO2 gets higher and adjust on time. EOTD isn't a real problem if...

    500g Liquid CO2 = what volume of CO2 gas?

Only the temperature when outside the bottle makes a difference. As Ian mentioned, 500gr = 500gr. But 500gr of CO2 gas in the air at 20C is different than 500gr of CO2 at 25C. The warmer it is, the larger the volume.

Preventing the next End of Tank Dump (EOTD)

I agree with Ian, unless you use it the way I use it, not for the exact number, but to keep it steady. Like a limit. If I go by the number, with a KH of 5,7-6,1 and a pH of 6,2-6,3 I'm gassing all fish. If you ordered a dual stage regulator, you don't need it!

Preventing the next End of Tank Dump (EOTD)

This EOTD got me thinking a while back as well. I solved it used a pH controlled set to prevent this. The problem is I didn't want to inject CO2 at night, so I installed an extra solonoid to shut the CO2 off at night. I think this is about the safest system to use, but it isn't cheap. On my 20L...

    Worried about gassing fish.

Shrimps are more CO2 sensitive than most fish. So don't worry! About the dropchecker, you didn't fill it with tank water did you? If not, it is totally independent from the substrate or whatever. Maybe the reagent is bad, but it can't be due to the soil. My dropchecker is also almost the same...

    Worried about gassing fish.

If you are relying on oxygen diffusing from the air, something is wrong. By injecting CO2, your plants will supply more oxygen than you'll ever get with diffusion. As long as your DC isn't yellow and your plants are doing good (produce loads of oxygen) your fine. Just make sure you slowly...

What form of carbon do water plants use?

So although probably not measurable (or is it?), does this mean that when we inject CO2 the KH rises?

    CO2, carbonates and water clarity

You can always try liquid carbon like excel/easycarbo. I don't know the preference ratio, but I do know it takes more energy to use bicarbonate as carbon for a plant. I think if CO2 is available it will always be preferred. I don't really get the particle new bottle effect. I do know Amano...

How do you clean a ceramic disc ?

While cleaning the tank, I hang the diffusor at the side of the tank and drip a few drops of easycarbo/excel on it. After I'm ready with the tank I can just put it back without the risk of bleach. It is not clean yet but will become in the next few days. Or I use H2O2 in the same way. Also no...

Just how much C02 do you use!

10 kg lasted about 5 months on my 400L 0.5 kg lasted 6-11 months on my 27L depending on the amount of light.

c02, inline diffuser, ph meter readings....

You could take a little water out of the tank, the CO2 bubbles will be out in a few seconds and than measure pH to see whether they really influence the meter. I guess they will. If the CO2 bubbles come in contact with the electrode, you would get a lower reading than the pH from the water...

    Colour Blind

You're correct, but pH from CO2 is an artificial pH. Fish don't care (nor do they notice if I'm right). So this is not something to worry about. pH swings due to KH swings are more troublesome. My pH drops 1.2 every morning in less than 2 hours and and rises after the lights are turned of again...

    Just open it fully!

why am i using so much?

I calculated it for 4 high light, fully planted tanks. Two with inline (100% dissolving) diffusors and two with ADA type. Lights and CO2 on for 10-12 hours. With inline diffusor I use 5-10 gram a day per 100 liter. With ceramic diffusors 8-18 gram per 100L per day. Off course many factors are...
