How good is yours!!! Had a little glance through your journal last night. Very impressive that you have bred the choc's!
My tank will feature choc's they have been living in the holding tank all summer.
Well remembered Tim, as you can see its been a while as that was my last post back in May. :wideyed: Yes the new scape is going to feature some of that lovely manzi! Chose my pieces earlier, gave them a scrub and now soaking them ready for lashing them together in the scape
Hello:wave:
After what seems like an eternity with no tank and no time on UKAPS I am delighted to say there is water in my 60p again! This is after a wedge of TGM vouchers arrived for my birthday followed by a trip to Wrexham to visit TGM and i am all motivated again.
I will shortly...
Hey
Back from holidays and managed to sort the wood a little, picked out some key pieces for my new scape. Here is what I have to choose from, over 50 pieces:

To say I am delighted is an understatement.
Cheers
Andyh
So the big day has arrived!
I got WOOD, and lots of it! Dozens and Dozens of pieces
OH i am so excited about the prospect of the new scape!!

Have to share my excitement somewhere!!
I got wood!!!!:woot:
Just had my order confirmed from the USA for a nice big box of Manzi wood!
There is not many people i would tell outside the friendly walls of UKAPS, that i am really excited about receiving a big box of roots and branches from...
Lights - Most people Opt for the shorter light periods for the first 4 weeks. Say 5 Hrs building to 7hrs
Daily water changes really help, especially if you use ADA Amazonia or equiv that leaches Ammonia at the beginning. In the world of planted tanks Water changes (WC) are your friend. I...
Never had any problems with my 1-2 grows, purchased from a variety of places and most of the plants they have in the range, normally the quality is far better than the traditional pots.
Maybe the ones you received where a little young. You can always leave them near a light as they grow quite...
Whitey
Thats not my point nobody would pay more for the same product, i am saying ada like audi is a premium brand and whether you buy it here, there or in the USA, Europe etc its still going to by at the higher end of the market it terms of price.
All this speculation of being able to buy...
i happen to work for a very large Japanese company, so I have some basic understanding of import/export etc and the one thing your all forgetting is currency. Pound to Yen has been terrible for years, and i mean dire. Most Japanese manufactured products have suffered terribly prices have...
I am not sure publicly bashing TGM is really going to help and not wanting to get drawn into this, but have you considered that £800ish is not really a big enquiry and worth discounting? Remember a normal full setup to them is probably £1000 to £2000 if not more.....
As for plant problems...
If you don't know about this your in for a real treat. 8)
ADA have a youtube/Facebook page now and regularly upload some fantastic videos of their tanks and scapes. Get subscribed if your not already!
Now in my humble opinion this is the best video to date, as its Amano completing a scape and...
i would stop with the root tabs myself, roots tabs tend to be slow release and should last a lot longer than two weeks.
Only add root tabs if you plants start to show deficiency. But technically your liquid plant food should providing a majority of what the plant needs.
Lewis, I think the actual stand i.e the bar is ADA Garden Stand, but they have had a base plate and two vertical risers/stubs made to utilise the ADA Garden stand. As this would normally fasten to the side of the cabinet with a clamp.
Stu, as you say hard to describe. Jim pointed out to me that the substrate is actually mirrored from back left to front right. It sounds strange but looks bang on
So i found myself up at The Green Machine Yesterday purchasing a few bits, and i couldn't help but admire one of their new scapes. Its a shallow one, i know George has done a shallow tank before (was in PFK) but its the first one i have seen in the flesh, and i was really impressed and it added...
personally i think they look cool.
I saw a few when they first came out and was impressed.
You have highlighted my only concern which limits there use, which is the side opening doors. If you have no problem with the rest should be easy.
And i am sure a man of your calibre can scape around...
Good selction guys but not quite there.....
I defo dont want black so thats out.
I like the look of the UNipac stuff hogan but want something with maybe darker tones in it.
Anymore that people would think will go well with the dark grey stone?
Hello UKAPS Massive
Can anybody recommend a good gravel to use in a small tank with Seiryu Stone
I have been looking but not seen anything that sets my world on fire
Andy
I contribute when I can, both plants and shrimps and donations.
But I think a paid subscription is seriously flawed, it would dramatically affect the membership levels :(
The main appeal is that UKAPS is a wonderful free resource for all take part in and a paid membership would...
+1 for Darrels comments
You have probably distrubed a lot of "nastyness" in the gravel etc, Darrels points about lots of water changes and water conditioning is a must!
Good luck
Good Luck
Wow Aquascaping hits the mainstream!
Interesting how some of the comments seem to doubt the scapes, its the old school mentality which is still mainstream belief that tanks cant be maintained to this standard.
great promotion for the hobby
Hey Laurie,
Sounds like you have had loads of good advice already the only thing i would add is it may be worth bringing your CO2 on earlier say 2 hrs b4 lights so that you have the CO2 level nice and high/stable for when the lights come on and require the most CO2. This will probably help in a...
lewis, your a tough man to impress! you did forget to metion the readers tanks, which was our very own Mark Evans aka Saintly. Great interview and tank!
Pfk only costs £3.80  Get your wallet out!
I think your missing my point, this could be the beginning of a regular planted tank section, there isn't a big enough following of Planted tanks in the Uk IMHO its all about getting this particular strain of the hobby some strong...
28 pages of planted tank!! Everybody should buy Pfk this month to show support for the planted tank scene.
It may convince them it's worth doing it regularly !
Whoa! looks cool! :geek:
Since when did my tank go up on the website? I didn't know I was online! I have to admit haven't visited PFK online for a while though!
I am with you on this too! Its so evident in so many tanks that people i have got a little over-keen with the lights and not got the balance of all the key parts right. Yes you can have strong lighting but start low and get the balance right then turn all (light+co2+nutrients etc) things up if...
Viktor
When using it to clear algae from wood with brush, do you out some in a bowl and literally paint onto the wood?
If i drain my water in my tank low enough to get to the wood will that be ok to do it in tank?
Andy
Hey guys
sorry bit late on this thread, there is no shrimp safe whitespot treatment. It will kill you shrimps or cause massive stress on them, and probably end up killing them eventually.
Also once dosed you tank, hardscape plants etc absorb the treatment and therefore your tank becomes...
or put a piece of cucumber in the tank with piece of lead attached to hold it down b4 you got bed. In the morning it will have snails all over it then you can lift it out.
I have been trying to get prices and find out who sells them! That LED light is friggin awesome!
Andybody know anything? price, who sells? I think they are Italian?
I defo agree with you guys that it would provide a decent challenge, 2ft cube, the thought of having 2 ft of depth to play with is quite challenging that combined with the height should make it an interesting scape.
I cant believe that the tank volume is 208l, it seems loads!
Had a look at the...
Somebody should put together a UKAPS guide for real beginners, covering the key areas!
All new members should be pointed to it!
Steve - well volunteered!
Mowze
You seem to have an issue with a certain group of people who have obviously changed fish purely for a cosmetic reason and i could understand why you would find this disturbing, there is nothing worse.
However you are taring everybody with the same brush, (and yes we all have bad days...
Re: Paul's 200L, "Punishment of Luxury"
Mowze, do you not think you comments would have been much better suited elsewhere. Paul has worked very hard to look after his fish and maintain CO2 levels which are not a threat to his fish. I think if you want to make comments like above and as you even...
I have a 60l in my garage running with 150w heater, to help in the recent cold temps i have insulated 3 sides of the tank with polystyrene. Also made sure the lid fits well. No problems maintaining 24degrees C
Hey Garuf i am afraid i agree with Dan, a little harsh!
I suppose were i differ is that i am from a fishkeeping background so the magazine doesnt need to be a planted tank journal for me, as being honest nothing would come close to the knowledge right here on UKAPS. I am not the voice of PFK or...
Just a quick comment to say that i think PFK is getting a little more suited to us planted tank enthusiasts!
Just read my latest PFK and i have to say very happy, it seems to be including lots more around the planted tank world. Is it only me noticing this? Personally i think its great news...
Fishbeast
Thanks for the great link! Firstly the info on moss is great and have 2 different fissidens at the moment in my tanks so very useful. Secondly all the info on the Stiphodon Gobies! I have 5 and there is so much discussion about them on rainbow fish! Info is hard to come by in the UK...
Looking good
I like the path it gives a feeling of depth.
It will obviously fill in a lot once those plants get growing, whats the small plant you have growing in the slate pieces, HC?
Need a photo of the whole thing though!!
Hello
Its a hard question to answer without knowing your tank.
The secret i found was that everything should gently sway, so try and it get it to compliment your existing filter return.
I have mine opposite to the filter return to create a a good circular flow within my tank. But bare in mind...
Re: AGA Results
I think its stunning, as said earlier its all subjective, I don't like every scape created, but in this case the skill in growing such healthy plants and the pruning skills alone are amazing!
I got my FW gobies from maidenhead aquatics at Shirley, its one of the few places i have seen them, thing the manager likes them as he 4 or 5 different species. I have Red and blue
Freshwater seahorses! Now that would be seriously cool for my new tank!
George
I look forward to receiving my copy, one for the planted tank (how big) and two for the Goby info. I am having great success with Freshwater gobies in my Kitchen tank setup (stiphidon sp) they are great algae eaters.
Andy
Hello
Not that Dan needs it, but i second what he is saying completely. There are loads of people who start down the planted tank journey and try to cut corners (myself included but don't tell anyone!) it simply doesn't work. The key things i have learnt is that its all about CO2, Nutrients...
I have just checked The Eheim 2211 has a published flow rate of 300lph (less drop off with media etc probably giving 200-250lph)
In my early days of fish keeping i would of never considered putting an external on such a small l tank. However a lot of the guys like myslef on here use the x10...
