Lets get the 6500k debate going again then

Here is simple pic which show the difference well. just took a pic of my t5 luminaire. Kelvin rating by andyh_2011, on Flickr As can be easily seen the pink tube is the one with a 4-5k rating the others are 6-8k. I like the versatility of the mutli tube setup as i mix them to give the...

Lets get the 6500k debate going again then

My view is, light is light, kelvin is colour temperature. And within the range you are talking about there is no real difference in plant growth.

Lets get the 6500k debate going again then

Whoa massive debate looming. Me personally 6500 -8000k is best it gives a nice white light and makes greens look vivid. Its what i class as a nice clean white light. Weakness, is the reds, but does this really matter, maybe if you have a shoal of red fish that you want to show the colours off...

ADA NA Green bulb Kaput :(

Hey Stu My dad and Bro are probably better placed to answer the MH question, but in short yes they can explode towards the end of life. Normally 2 yrs based on 7-8 hrs per day. They both have multiple MH setups and have both experienced the BANG!. Normally recommended that you replace them at 2...

To buy cheap or expensive T5's

define cheaper t5's? If you mean cheaper than the branded powerglo or lifeglo, Approx £20-£25 branded tubes then yes. I buy my tubes from Lampspecs.co.uk and for a 2ft/24w i generally pay between £8 and 12 each As you have seen just done a comparison with them on my nano journal. As...

Making the transition 't5 to MH'

Hello My new Metal Halide arrives in a few weeks and want to start to think about the transition from my current lights Arcadia 60cm Luminaire 4 x24w T5 tubes for 7 hours per day. The main reason for the change was the fact that the 6Ocm light was a tempoary fix whilst waiting for Mh to arrive...

    Metal Halide vs T5HO ?

Kelvin rating for me is a personel choice, as you can grow plants under most lights no matter the kelvin rating (ask Clive/Ceg4048 to explain that thing about photons/the matrix etc) :geek: I perosnally am going for one around about the 8000k mark as i dont like the colour rendition that the...

    Metal Halide vs T5HO ?

Hey, i have just recently had the same debate, i have chosen the MH for my 90cm. In answer to your question will it be enough, yes several members on here alone have had great success with a 150w MH above a 90cm.

which lighting for a possible new tank?

I run two 18w lights on my tank which is very similar in size, not because i need too but because i choose too. I like the higher light levels but this then presents extra challenges, more CO2 and more nutrients. I would say start with one light and see how you get on, you can always buy another...

    ADA Solar 1

Tom, Interesting what you say about the ballast, as over here in the UK the importer (TGM) leads me to believe they have sourced their own UK specific Ballasts now. I am keen to understand what makes a good ballast as if what you say is true and i dont doubt it for a second, an increase of...

    T5 Tube life

I agree with all the other comments. I would suggest that the only reason for replacing them is if you aren't happy with the look they give your tank. Andyh

    Hooray

Any pictures of it? One thing to remember is that LED lights are more directional than a t5/t8 tube which emits light 360degrees hence the need for reflectors etc. The LED's are very effective at reducing wasted light. My tank in lounge lights the whole room due to the tubes. Sounds promising...

Arcadia overtank luminaire 4 x T5 24w, have you got one?

So if i deduce correctly the light is only 5cm high. Do you reckon i could stand it on top of a 24 x 12 x12 without the legs if i put some sort of retaining pins in place to stop it dropping in the tank. By the way popped into maidenhead the other week and saw your tank, very impressive. Are...

Arcadia overtank luminaire 4 x T5 24w, have you got one?

I have a chance to buy a 4 x 24w t5 (the older version not the OL2 super thin one.) Can anyone tell me the depth of the actual light unit? as i am limited on the size of unit and can accommodate. Also can anyone tell me the total height with the legs on from the rim of the tank to the top of...
