just out of curiosity are you adding the fx6 to the tetra tecs, or replacing them. As long as you don't have loads of surface movement you wont need the filter return to the tank that low in the tank. but high or low wont effect the operation of the filter.
do you mean the filter out let. you can have it low in the tank, but you need to think about water flow. if your running an fx6 you must have a large tank, so a spray bar might suit you. how are you dissolving the co2?
i don't think its much different to an fx5, or works any different to other canister filter. you should be OK to put it low in the tank as long as the canister is blow the water level by a couple of 100 millimeters.
just a quick poll for those of you using a spray bar configuration. where do you put your filter intake. back wall, side wall, high in the water low in the water. even on the front when no ones around. i tried the back conner but every plant in front of them got full of crap. now trying the...
One thing I learned last weekend was you need to keep the pump clean got full of crap and keepet blowing fuses. My fault for being lazy had it since Christmas still a rest bit of kit.

ive been looking at the bigger one. as Clive says its just a pump in a bucket. comes with a years guarantee so they must have some fate in. im sure someone here using one i think ive seen it in a tidy cabinet shot.
i tie what ever is under the kitchen sink (piece of sponge, bit of plastic cleaning pad, part of a j cloth) to the end of a piece of washing line ( will never snap) and pull it through a couple of times.
can anyone recommend me a super cheap nano power head, for my 26l. or even sell me one that would be shrimp safe. if i ever get round to getting them. thanks
i tried a Fluidised gave up with it. i read if the stop running for more than a couple of minutes, then start again they can be toxic. im turning mine in to a reactor when i get the pump to run it.
was more about flow in the tank to be honest than filtration. managed to get the overflow box working a bit better but stll need to play with it makes a right racket
i think your right, there might be air in them. i just thought they didn't work that well normally. if your estimated flow is right i need to have a play with them, at the weekend thanks mate.
im not very good at explaining my self sorry i struggle with writing thank god for spell check. what i mean is the i have 3 1.5" pipes that take the water out of the tank over the edge and in to the over flow box. the water then goes down another 1.5" pipe there is the possibility to get more...
i think i know what you mean ed but i think that will only draw as much water as an over flowbox not as much as a syphon is capable of i have 3 X 1 1/2" pipes from the tank in to the over flow box and they not max out the 1 X 1 1/2" pipe that go's to the sump
drilled my sump it then cracked a week later. did think about it but its not worth the risk tanks full off fish to many to rehouse even just while i drill. did aquariums Ltd not drill your tank when they made it.
at the moment to get more water through my sump and increase flow im running a DIY over flow box* with 3 X 1.5" pipes on. this doesn't work as well as id like and is hard to clean.also i think a large source of lost co2. so i was thinking of ways to increase water in to the sump. i was thinking...
ive got some of the bigger ones they do make a little bit of noise due to the way they work. how are you mounting it i found with the suction cups worked best transfers less sound in to the tank. the air line idea on this pump would make it worse. if you really really cant stand the noise you...
the exact same thing happened to me on sunday after 3 years of useing the fillter removed cleaned the o ring twice still leaked after the first time, after that did look like it was leaking but i put a plate under it and its still dry now good luck sure it just needs a clean
i have several of these i think for the money they are great what voltage does the box say some seem to be 240 others 110 and i leave mine on all the time as the flow they put out is a random sort of wave so the fish seem ok with it 24/7
sorry flygja forgot to say its a 750l tank so uses a bit of gas and 342w of t5 probably has a bit to do with it as well. i was using 10kg month. now i hope it will be less with the new sump. 36kg of gas has so far lasted just over 3.5 months, so its an improvement. have to see when it runs...
alfagrog does seem to do a very good job i much prefer it to sponges. and due to the design of the sump there is a bit that the muck collects in. i dont think with only a single compartment a sump would work very well with any other media. and i dont really want to change the design so far 35kg...
unfortunately its all or nothing with my sump. need to drag it out in the garden, then hose it off with the syphoning tank water. or all the muck just ends up getting pumped in to the tank.
when my glass sump cracked during a Sunday morning water change i had to come up with something as a...
i know every one cleans out there filter regularly, it always seems to be to help with the flow. if im using a sump does it matter how much muck builds up. as long as its still flowing or will the dirt cause issues in the tank. my sump is full of alfagrog only.
From reading nearly every thing clive posts doesing EI can only help but 1x tank flow is very low 3x is recomended just for normal tanks you might find it causes you problems
it is co2 injected you helped me out with some algae issues all gone now. and plants starting to improve. here is a link to that chat

thanks again Clive (it is Clive isn't it). ill bin that idea maybe just skip the water and re fill from the tap 10% wont mater if its not heated will it. just to check do i add enough tap safe to treat 750l of water or just the %10
thanks dan
hi guys ive set up a trickle change water system on mu 750l it seems to be working fine. now the time has come to "hoover" the gravel. i was just going to syphon the water back in to the sump through some filter sponges but i was thinking would the water contain high levels of ammonia and cause...
ok thanks for your help im going to give up with loop its just to difficult with out adding 8 small flow pumps would i be right in thinking a flow pump has an exposed propeller where as a power head has an in cased impeller if so my 2200lph is a flow pump not a power head my bad didnt realise...
hi all just wondering what you all thought about water flow what's better for fert distribution.would it be the wter in the tank to go round in a loop, as in come out near the filter in let do a lap then go back in the filter or would a more random water patten be better. im hoping it doesn't...
wow never seen them before i think that's what ill do try to get a second hand one iv put a slightly better pump on for now still not powerful enough and it uses 278 watts but will have to do thanks mate ill start looking now
hi all ive just found out/worked out that the pump im useing in my sump a hoze lock easy clear 9000
http://www.hozelockpondproducts.co.uk/H ... r_Pump.htm
