all better, I think. I treated them to a course of Myxazin, which wasn't nice for my hairgrass, but has fixed my fish's eye. He's still darker than he used to be though, but is eating very well, looking healthy so I'm not too worried.

I don't feed my otos anything, they seem to find what they need around the tank. It is a big (100gals) established, very well planted tank though. If the others are alright, and the oto is behaving normally, then maybe your oto is a male and that's why he's thin? I find my females a lot...

Interestingly, the Esha treatment has cured the hair algae problem that I've been fighting since before before Christmas!

ALL SPOTS GONE!!! and I did that water change, which has helped with the algae.

things are much better today :-) most of the spots have gone now on all the fish, and the seven fry are still ok.

I found the fry! They're not dead after all, just hiding.

White spot is much worse today... I put a second treatment in yesterday and I thought I was past the worst. But I was wrong, and it's back worse than before with more fish affected. All the fry have gone :( not a good day.

Bad news - there are only seven fry left. I put a second dose of the meds in today - I don't know if it killed them, or if they got eaten by something :(

My clown loach only has two spots now - compared to around 6 yesterday. So I think it's working! *fingers still crossed* All the fry are still fine, the parents are getting bolder - they're taking them on some rather risky excursions! Including beside the koralia, where the fry were swept in...

Thanks Ed I put the Esha treatment in last night, so I guess I will carry on with it. So far no harm seems to have been done. I haven't spotted the krib fry yet today, but the lights aren't on yet, and they do seem to come and go out of where ever their cave is.

I don't know if this is true or not. But I have three in my 100gal and I've never had any problems with them. Don't get a royal plec though! Mass plant devastation! lol I say this from experience!

You could try stuff like putting peat in your filter, and using aquasoil. Alternatively you could get an RO unit and mix the water half and half with your tap water.

There are other types of rainbows that are smaller than bosmani. 'neon dwarf' and 'threadfin' spring to mind but I'm sure there are others. Cichlids tend to eat plants (I'm assuming you're talking about Malawi and Tangenika (sp?) cichlids).

rainbows like hard water, and they come in all sorts of colours and sizes.

I've never kept them personally, but I looked after them in my lfs when I worked there. Make sure it gets enough to eat. Holding food close to it's mouth with tweesers is a good idea, as the other fish won't eat it first.

I had some long finned danios once (they died of old age in the end) and they were lovely. They behave like normal danios, but they are really pretty.

I think I read somewhere that the key to keeping hatchets in the tank, is to not have anything else that might startle them. Because when they're startled, they jump.

lol funny story - when i first started keeping tropical fish, I was sold a shoal of gold tetras. Except... the guy in the LFS said they were White Cloud mountain minnows!!! I cycled my tank with these! They all survived... don't know how though.

I've never seen a gold neon in the flesh (do they exist?), but at the LFS I used to work at we used to get albino neons, which were labelled as gold neons. You might want to check that's not what you are seeing.
