Ok. I guess it's not certain what would happen if I dosed all in one go. I think to be on the safe side I won't change the frequency of the dosing knowing that it doesn't cause any issues to dose after lights on.
Thanks for your advice! :)
I'm a big fan of the Estimate Index dosing regime which involves interchangeably adding macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients for 5/6 days of the week and then removing 50% of the water on day 7.
I've found a minor downside to this though. The downside is that I'm not always near the aquarium to...
The frozen bloodworm, I USED to feed were from food4fish.co.uk and the package that they are situated in has 'gamma eradicated' on it. If it had not said this I wouldn't have bought it. I've speculated that since it is frozen (I keep them in my fridge at -19 degrees C) that any parasites would...
I just thought I'd add that I recently purchased a piece of scientific apparatus which measures nitrate in water. This is the device I obtained: http://www.coleparmer.co.uk/Product/Hor ... Z-05760-05 . I'm not sure its that exact model as I bought it elsewhere and was directed to the version of...
Indeed, a cold water employee at my LFS explained that nitrates should be kept below 20 ppm otherwise there would be oxygen problems and many guides on the internet state that nitrate levels should be between 5-10 ppm for Rams, neglecting to mention WHY it should be between 5-10 ppm when they...
I know, test kits are very unreliable. About a week ago I bought a scientific nitrate meter so that I can accurately measure nitrate. I plan to keep the nitrate in accordance with standard tap water concentrations which I think is 45 ppm for the UK. I just have a fear that excess nitrate may...
Thank you for all of the responses. I will contact Sera and ask them the question I've asked here; hopefully they will provide a scientifically accurate, non-commercially motivated response.
As for the suggestion of testing the nitrate and phosphate of my water to answer my own question, I...
Well this post is mean't to be concise so don't be alarmed!
If a UV steriliser (integrated into a filtration system) is added to a planted aquarium that is being dosed with nitrate and phosphate fertiliser, will the UV reduce the effectiveness of the fertiliser or do nothing?
I'm a big fan of...
I do feed blood worm to my GBR's weekly. Is this too often and could blood worms perhaps be blamed for hexamita/HITH onset given that the bloodworm has little to no nutritional value? One theory is that hexamita/HITH is caused due to lack of vitamin C and other minerals so I guess if a blood...
My total ammonia is 0 ppm and nitrite is 0 ppm so stress isn't coming from those parameters. I do do a lot of plant re-arranging which I guess could cause a bit a stress, but I only re-arrange plants if I feel that they will die if I don't intervene. I have watched the male ram come towards my...
Is there anything known as a healthy or optimum nitrate level for a planted aquarium?
The reason I ask this is because I maintain a planted aquarium with a nitrate level of 50-60 ppm after finding that a multitude of algaes (including cyanobacteria) grow at nitrate levels around 20 ppm. I was...
Hi Nry,
No the ammonia level is 0 ppm.
There hasn't been a total ammonia spike, so this tells me that the bioload isn't causing the nitrite level increase. It seems more like either nitrite has been directly added to the aquarium OR something is interfering with the API nitrite test kit (the...
But the nitrite test kit has never indicated anything above 0ppm in the 6 months I've add it. It's only started showing higher levels of nitrite since I started using these new substances. I find that very very strange.
I will do that Google search shortly and see what I can do.
Let me word it differently; if nitrite test kits are inaccurate without fert dosing, then do they become more inaccurate with fert dosing?
"The question I really need to get the answer to is do the substances involved in EI dosing cause API nitrite test kits to show very inaccurate nitrite...
Thanks for the response,
Please can I get a second opinion as I don't believe nitrite kits are totally rubbish. After all, they are a crucial tool used in the fishless nitrogen cycle when setting up an aquarium.
The question I really need to get the answer to is do the substances involved in...
Hello,
I was recently referred to this website by the owner of a company named Fluidsensor who supplied me with the dry fertilisers needed to start an estimative index dosing regime.
I purchased from him, the following to make to two separate forms of nutrient solution:
Macro-nutrient Dry...
