It will restrict the flow but as you say I think it'll still be better than your previous filter.

What about buying a cheaper filter like a SuperFish Aqua-Pro or similar, and with the money you've saved you could upgrade the rest?

Ah, yes. If you're getting it for a good price it'd most likely be worth it. Mind, I use Tetratec filters mostly.

Not sure what the diametre of the Aqua-Pro 600 is but I suspect it'll be 16mm.
