i had a pair for half year now, until 5 days ago. I noticed the male stopped eating and started with a small grey on the upper lip. Now the whole mouth is grey and opened all the time. No luck with feeding. Anybody know what this is?

I did a 50% water change yesterday. The water looks fine. I didn’t add any new fish recently

Has anyone experienced this before? Should I start treating as infection?

Thx

The only time I notice what you mention is when my fish lip lock, its possible yours have been lip locking and his jaw has been dislocated perhaps, but probably quite unlikely...probably some kind of infection

Thanks. Going to a holiday in a few days, have to decide whether to take him out or keep it.. :(

Fish rarely (if ever) recover from this sort of injury, I’d euthanize

When (established) fish stop eating, the stressor (disease, injury) is severe

While you might obtain suitable treatment through an experienced fish vet, there’s nothing over the counter that will help sort this fish

Thx for all your reply. Unfortunately that fish died today. Such a pity. Had for nearly 1 year. Now I have to get another male for the already yellow female.
