Buying Wood For Your Aquarium. Where and How?

I recon the one thing that always pops into my head when i look at my tank is, 'I wish i had a wonderful bit of wood in there like i see on this effort by the one we know as CooKieS'.

Anyway if you can't get to a decent shop, what do you guys do?
Previously i have randomly bought bits of wood in the hope that i can do something with it, but it never really works out.

Any hints and tips welcomed.

I purchased a couple of nice bits of corbo wood from aquarium gardens, reasonably priced too
But most of mine was free 👍👍😂 came from the garden (beech and apple)

most of the time you have to construct the wood yourself, you could try the wood below its not the same wood but it is nice and cheap so wont hurt if you mess it up

chop of the bits you dont like and move bits around secure with rocks and suck up the white fungus with a fish feeding pipette when it arrives

From my experience, it's worth asking the shop to mock up a rough design if it's not easily accessible.

I eventually harvested some from the wild!

I usually (<"pyo my own"> & <"Finding my own hardscape (NE Scotland)">) as well, but a few years ago I planted a <"Corkscrew Hazel"> Corylus avellana "Contorta" partially so I could lop bits from it, but I still haven't done it.

I got all the wood in my current tank from Tony @ Abacus Aquatics... I felt at the time that I had fleeced him as he had numerous interesting pieces for more than fair prices

Wood is one of those things that I have to see with my own eyes and I will often do a mock scape on the shop floor or counter depending on the space...

That's exactly how I get mine too. Found some real beauties that give an amazing natural feel
