Hi all

Can someone give me a quick check on the below, based on CEG4048's tutorial.

180l Tank

Macro Mix
480ml water - 4 weeks supply - 12 doses = 40ml per dose (3 a week)
5 1/4 tsp KNO3
1 3/4 tsp KH2PO4
10tsp tsp MgSO4 - from fluidsensoronline (i calculated 14?)

Micros Mix
480ml - 8 weeks supply - 16 doses = 30ml per dose (2 a week)
2 1/4 tsp trace

Fairly sure i've got this right but could use a double check...

Thanks
Shaun

Hi,
The numbers are fine. I'd just round everything up to the nearest integer and call it good. If you want even better growth then using 2 or even 3 teaspoons of the KH2PO4 wouldn't be over the top. Again, you can experiment with lesser amount of Epsom Salts if it becomes too expensive and if you're water report indicates that you have some Mg in the water supply.

Cheers,

Thanks for the check. So adding extra KH2PO4 would increase the amount of phosphates i'm adding by about 2ppm per dose?

I'm still on a steep learning curve with the ferts and i'm no chemist i'm afraid...

Hi,
You need to stop worrying about ppm, otherwise you will be paralyzed with indecision and doubt. Here is the general (non-chemist) gist of EI:
1. You look through the glass and see the plants grow.
2. Add more nutrients and see the plants grow faster.
3. At the end of the week trim the excess growth and clean the tank.

The following week you make a decision:
Do I want to continue the extra maintenance of pruning and cleaning due to extra growth cause by extra nutrients?
If answer is no, reduce the level of PO4/NO3 to the original amount.
If answer is yes, continue from step 1.

EI is not about numbers. We have to do some math to get started, but everything after that is observation and adjustment based on what we see.

Cheers,

i have the same size tank,

6KNO3, 2 KHPO4, 14 MgSO4 is what i worked out. had a thread about it too and someone said they had to up the KH2PO4 to get rid of GSA. same happened with me so now use 6 KH2PO4 anything less it returns.

then trace 3

thread is here - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=15287
