Very nice; a lovely tight carpet. Pity the water is a little cloudy; it spoils the view a little...

There's a few members on here who have done the same and have magnificent planted tanks in plain gravel.

Substrate is often 'overrated' in my view. If the other factors are good then any plant can be grown in plain gravel or sand. A nutrient-rich substrate offers more room for error, although sometimes can cause more problems than it helps (speak to LondonDragon!)
