Gravel under soil

Basic question here guys.....as my scape starts to bank upwards towards the rear of the tank, any reason why I cannot use gravel underneath as a base to give height and then put soil over the top?

Probably going to be a little short on soil, but have plenty of gravel...

Here you go

Key is choosing a gravel with good flow & don't overstuff the bags so you can shape the bag around hardscape
ADA uses their Power Sand for this, there are several ukaps journal examples using "lava"

No reason what's so ever... the gravel is heavier so shouldnt have a problem with the soil sinking below.

Thanks- second silly question....

When separating gravel from soil I see two options....

Have a temporary ‘dam’ (paper/ card etc) which is removed once filled and then the rocks placed over the joining line

Or

Put rocks in a fill to the rocks

Is there a right/wrong way to do this?
