Help me scape a challenge - long and low

The chihiros A series comes in 120cm too, with 8 positions dimmer.

For 110€ in France with inox 'leg' kit that will let you adjust the height too.

I'm gonna use the 45cm version on my Ada 60F and I love the fact that it's cheap to buy, dimmable and fully adjustable. ;)
 
Guys, am I up against it if I wanted to do a red crystal colony?

I can get RO easily, and I have the GH+ salts, so not worried about water changes etc; but has anyone else sustained a colony in a tank where the tds potentially rises quickly due to the open topped nature (top-ups etc)? Maintaining water temperature would be an added factor too, especially coming into winter. I did note the thread on here regarding ideal temps being between 21-23 degrees.
