How do you trim a bacopa australis carpet?

As per the title, I have an experimental carpet of bacopa australis in a low tech. It seems to be growing too tick now so the top plants can't root through the ones underneath properly although they are still growing horizontally. There are no major issues yet but maybe I don't need to let it be too tick as it will turn upwards maybe and bottom plants may rot.
What's the best way to maintain it long term if anyone has kept this plant as a carpet rather than a stem like growth?

So far I've trimmed the tops as much as I can and and as often as I can but it gets ticker and ticker that way. If I want to chop it down more, would it be ok to just cut it like hair with the scissors or it needs more precise trimming?
