How to get nurii rosen to grow in blackwater

That is so kind, but I have that particular one. It makes sense you got it from another hobbyist, and even then it's not too common. Mine started as TC and yeah, pretty slow growing even compared to other crypts IME. It was one of three crypt species in a nano tank I just took down, and a single original plant had made about a dozen runners in four years, which is way fewer than I got from the other two. It's very pretty though and the leaves are so distinct you can easily pick them out in a sea of other crypts. Definitely worth having, glad you were able to track it down.
Well.... if you have 13 of them and lived next door you should have walked one over to me 😉 then i could have given you the nurii's 😉

This is a brief update:

Everything is showing signs of life 'cept the plants in the front left corner. I had replaced the c. Ferruginea Sekadauensis with some that looked healthy but it didn't seem to take either. There is one little bit under the magnifying glass showing some activity so maybe it will come back. I was shocked the c. green greco didn't take. The c. yujii i'm not sure about - the c. affinis is definitely growing as well as the c. undulatus red and the c. willisii - i have to double check the c. yujii but i think we can see it is growing in the full tank picture - just that it changed colour to be more green.

You can see the c. purpurea in the middle on the driftwood - it has been there for 3 weeks - i haven't noticed any growth or melting. Guess it needs another 60 or 90 days.

I added behind the c. ferruginea sekadauensis a red diamond Echinodorus (tissue) and it immediately started growing. If nothing in that left corner grows rather than add another crypt I think i'm going to put in some s. repens which is growing really well in my other blackwater aquariums and is a fairly pleasing plant.

Next update likely in 2025 after all this is a low tech aquairum not one of those high tech aquarium that grows over night.

Brief update 6 weeks later - full aquarium:

On the left next to the new s. repens we see this:

Next to the repens we see the c. yurii (i think) has sprouted and started to grow - look between the s. repens and Alternanthera; it is small but we see 2 definite leaves growing 😉

On the other side we see what we believe is c. willis showing decent growth.

The Cryptocoryne balansae; for some reason i thought this was a hardwater plant but it seems to grow decent enough in several blackwater aquariums i have.

Nothing else worth reporting - the big bear in the back is growing like crazy and well i guess i need another 12 weeks to see what else is going to happen:

Another brief update:
p2.jpg

Full aquarium - the dithers are emerald eye rasbora and n. marilynae; the female in the right center is a. sp ladisal - sadly the male enjoys hiding 'cept when i feed them.
p3.jpg
I need to dig out my slr because the phone refuses to focus on static ojbects. I think this is the c. yujii poking through; definitely showing good health but will take a while to develop - -probably 3 or 4 months.
p1.jpg

I think that is c. willis - there is a bit more and it seems to be showing very good health.

Things are going slow which i expect in a low tech aquarium but it is going well enough for myself. The tank itself seems to have balanced out very well as there is little new algae growth. I probably should up the lights 10% - the ec is a bit high for unknown reason - around 50; my green neon tank which gets fertilizer has an ec of 18 and has the same substrate so i'm not quite sure why the ec is higher on this aquarium. The ph is in the low 6 I think. The green neon tetra aquarium has been setup for around 6 months later so i might still have a little leaching from the substrate - it is crystal river (carib sea) and is suppose to be inert but that is the only explanation i can offer.

Brief update nothing too interesting:

Only new plant is that pinto on the left - fellow sent me a few extra so i just stuck them in aquariums that had open areas. Might move it if the crypt i planted there shows life.

A minor update some 8 months later:
p4.jpg

The little affinis i planted a year ago seems to recently started to show some heart and has double in size. The hydro in the left back the stem rotted about after 8 months (i've always had this happen and folks say replant them but i didn't bother; i need a species of hydro that doesn't have to be replanted every year). The Cryptocoryne balansae, big bear and crypt spiralis in the back (right to left) has all done very well.

p3.jpgp2.jpg
(the leaf in the front is blocking the view of the crypt spiralis in the back. A year ago i traded some of my various crypt nuri variants for a crypt something or other and a few other plants. One of the plants he sent me was an unknown moss - a lot of the problem i have had is the moss breaking down (which allows algae) but it is starting to form some real structure now:

No clue what it is but maybe you know. Over all the aquarium has not done quite as well as some of the others but it doesn't get much attention - i'll probably start adding a bit of gh to see if that spuce things up a bit. The only new plant is an anubias gigantea - not really sure it is gigantea - they came in emersed form and have been slowly sending up submersed leaves as the old leaves decay. The leaf is leaning against it in this aquarium - it has done better in the 40b where the new leaves are very clean.

Oh well maybe another update in 8 or 12 months.
