Intake design

Am going to be DIYing some new pipework. (It's not my first ride on this rodeo.)
I've seen some interesting designs from Aquascaper and Wild Borneo. One has a skimmer incorporated. The other has holes along its full length rather than the usual more common slots at the end.
Any thoughts on efficiency and real world benefits?

I think the Borneowild intake was designed for deeper tanks. They were prototyped and tested in this shop. From the video at 2:04 onwards, you can see the intakes on some of the tanks.

Thanks. My tank is deep, so interesting that that may be the way to go.
