intresting site

Hi all,
It is a very interesting web site. Stephan Tanner is a Swiss scientist resident in the USA and "Swiss Tropicals" is his hobby. He actually gets his Poret foam and fittings from Germany. The HMF filters you can build are very good for biological filtration, and I've used them extensively, details here: <http://www.swisstropicals.com/Poret Hamburg Mattenfilter Kits.html>.

Have a look at Brian's Basement <http://www.brianstropicals.com/>, Brian is another scientist with a "hobby", he uses these Poret based HMF's, for his fish and has some amazing frogs.

cheers Darrel

I had seen some reference to these filters not long ago on an american site. I dont think I would use these filters in a display tank, but they look like they could be a good possibilty in the likes of breeding tanks.

What is the great thing about them though? It seems to me more about the large area of media for biological filtration and that they are relatively cheap.

Im not sure I would want an ugly big sponge in my tank either. Thats all it is, isn't it ? One big sponge filter ?
