Jim's 450 litre 4x2x2 - revamp

One thing I didn't mention is that I keep the temperature of the tank at 30 degrees celcius (86 F)

It gets hot here and if I have a temp of 25c (77 F) I get daily large temp fluctuations so this tank has been humming along since 2007 at 30 degrees celcius.
 
Alistair I love metal halide lighting. It's wonderful to know that any plant I put in the tank will cop enough light to grow.
8 hours for this tank has worked out perfectly. The only algae that I have is a very (though bloody persistant) low level amount of Green Spot Algae. I've never really had a tank that hasn't had some small amount of GSA at least on hardscape or long lived plants such as Anubias or even Sword leaves.

I really dislike GSA, I think out of all the algaes (and I've had them all in the 30 years I've kept aquaria) GSA is the biggest pain in the behind. I've upped and upped my phosphate dosing, it's definately made a difference, but in no way could I declare that it's erradicated it.

Downoi - I "think" I like Downoi, I just can't shake the thought out of my head that it looks like something that should be in my vegetable garden and not my aquarium -

I think I'm going to have to give the gloss a shot then if growths that good. My diwnoi is taking ages to do anything. Saying that, I have not long changed my halide unit from the aqua medic ocean light plus to the aqua one mg1200 and the halides alone don't seem to get the same light into the tank :0(

I don't seem to be able to keep this lotus down low. I remove sometimes 14-18 leaves every fortnight and it still wants to race for the surface -

Put 4 rams in my tank two weeks ago and they have DECIMATED my snail population unfortunately -
