keeping Sagittaria subulata confined?

Are there any tricks to keep Sagittaria subulata confined to a certain area of the tank? I keep having new shoots pop up in the weirdest places.
 
Other than digging up and trimming the runners, not really. Even if you put boundaries up, it'll just grow over the top of them.
