Im looking for some pointers for my next project.

I want to make a planted "wall" around the back and sides of my aquarium.

To do this i will use polystyrene sheets with expanding foam to create a rough surface to enable plants to be planted.

Has anyone got advice on how best to go about this project?

I've seen a few tutorials where they apply the expanding foam, then quickly pour sand on top of it before it sets. The more sand the less it expands, so you can get quite a natural looking surface. Obviously the sand sticks to the foam so chops the colour and grain size wisely... Might be worth experimenting first to see how well it works and to hone your technique...

I have some experience using expanding foam just not on such a scale.
My idea was to use soil to cover the background.

I will pick up some materials and see how it turns out.
