It's one of the substrates I'm considering but I'm a bit worried about what would happen to the discus I will have in the tank if the substrate gets disturbed. I read a couple of horror stories and given the cost of discus don't wont to risk loosing them so am looking at dennerle scaper's soil which according to there website is fish safe.

I'll have another look at TMC lighting I think I've seen a retro fit setup they do that will fit on the underside of existing light units. My biggest issue is that I don't have the original light unit for the Trigon 350 I bought and my wife has said no to me having suspended lights
