I'm no expert when it comes to planted tanks and most plants I try keeping I end up killing. However I've had great success with my java fern in my goldfish tank. Started off with 4 small plants around 4 years ago. And this is where I am today with it...
I have never trimmed any of it, used any type or fertiliser or co2. Just left it to do it's own thing

Not much else. I tend to kill every other plant
Last time I checked, this was the definition of an expert.

There is a researcher in Brazil that managed to sprout a rare plant, that was quite difficult, because there was no prior relevant research on that specific specimen.
She did it so well that it growed as high as one meter in a pot.
While in nature it only grows about to 50 centimetres.
