Thanks Kosko - I have been watching to see if it is predation and spot a culprit but not spotted anything. I'm going to cut it down as Roy suggests and keep an eye on it - no point in replacing it if the same is going to happen again.
The rest of the plants in this tank are about as good as I could hope them to be so I'm reasonably confident it's not down to the conditions/Co2 etc.
