power head, spraybar,pre-filter

I'm toying with the idea of running a maxi-jet 1000 power head and diy spraybar and connecting it to an external prefilter (filled with scrubbies) for added flow and filtration. Anyone doing this at the moment ?

Why not just run the pump simply through a a sponge pre-filter on the intake? I don't know how much you're relying on it for bio filtration but the less restriction the higher flow rate you'll have. You could use a medium coarse sponge and just clean it every week.
