S.A.D light

I bought one of the above and it fits perfectly over my tank.

72W, I think that would be too much light for your tank. I have same size tank with DIY 1x 36W on dimmable ballast and I have to tune down intensity. But my bulb is 3cm from surface. I would go for some 24W close to surface or 36W 10cm from surface as you see on that picture above.

These appear to be just energy saving bulbs, which probably mean they have a lot of green/yellow wavelengths. Can't see why they wouldn't work. So what if they are low on PAR? That just means less algae...

Cheers,

SAD light must be daylight bulb 10k Lux otherwise it is not SAD light and have no effect on SAD syndrome treatment :). So it is really very intense. So no, normal energy efficient bulbs 2700Kelvin can not be there. I have other brand SAD light at home and it has 6400k daylight Sylvania bulbs. I used to grow tomato seedlings with it.

This was never in doubt mate. Aren't you glad you didn't spend mega£££ for those specialist "plant" light bulbs sold in The Matrix? That would have been really SAD.

Cheers,
