shrimp tank cover question

Hi.
I've made small cube 21cmx3. The tank will be a home for 4-5 red cherry or other shrimps. The question is do I need cover the tank?

Depends how much gap you leave a the top, I have a small nano and when I fill it right up (3-4mm of the rim) to the top I have seen 3-4 dried cherries on the desk in the morning, but if I leave about 1.5cm gap at the top then they don't jump out.

In my Arcadia nano the glass top that came with it was smashed and I dont use a lid.

I just leave a 2cm gap from the top. So far no dead shrimp
