Just telling it like it really is. So since our two boys were born, I've not had as much time to pour into the hobby other than occasional water changes with the gravel cleaning tube.
My old CO2 setup ran out of gas and rather than refill it, I bought a bunch of Java Fern to add to the existing Anubias. (picture attached my old empty CO2 Setup. Prior to that, and about the time I realised I needed glasses,
I found my CO2 tank full of hairy algae on the stems of the PennyWort my tank was full of. (I had a tank of Penny Wort with some interesting and more rarely found foreground plants)
Then a couple of weeks ago, I noticed my digital thermometer was dead, and then most of my fish died. When I went to do the water change, the water was cold (16 degrees by day)
The heater had dirty water in the bottom. It's been running in my tank 15 years and was second hand.
I had two Blue platys and an unknown number of coolie loaches left.
I put a spare 100w heater in and one of the flourecent tubes blew which on the Juwel (Rio is it?) when one light goes, they both go. (Picture 2 a kitchen led batton keeps the plants alive while I try to fix the tube hood (see separate thread). (picture of old hood with altered wiring)
Anyhow I could not wire the hood for the 1047mm led tubes purchased and I bought on eBay some Multilux Lights. They are used but come with two sets of tubes.
The lights are much brighter than the old fluorescent tubes and the Java Fern leaves seem to be producing bubbles, where I thought they could have died with the back of the tank not illuminated very well for the best part of a week.
Final picture, the two survivors of the heat crash incident, enjoying the new light. And you know your fish appreciate the heat when the tank is still a little on the cool side and the sit just above the top of the heater.
Stop press: Good news! Two baby fry have been spotted in the tank which must have come from these two juveniles. Mother and baby are doing well.
