Substrate Supports

Hi all,

I'm looking for something cheap and effective to use as substrate supports and I was thinking of maybe using one of them plastic CD/DVD spindle cases, chopping it up to get nice curved pieces of plastic.

Do you think this plastic would be ok submerged in the substrate for the long term?

Pillows/stockings filled with cheap substrate?

Not sure if the plastic from CD cases are safe.
