Thermometer wrong

Dennerle 20c
Ista 25
Unknown floating thermometer 24c
What the hell, anyone got this trouble as this is quite a bit different readings

How do I get accurate temperature readings from my tanks?

Hi all. I purchased a new Eheim fixed temp 25c for my new blackwater tank but both thermometers are giving different results. The tank is quite cool to the touch and I’m worried the temp is much lower than the stated 25c. What do I need to get accurate results when testing the temperature? Cheers

My opinion is that most aquarium Digital thermometers are inaccurate and unreliable. If you want a fairly reliable reading then your talking glass thermometers or a calibrated probe.

my 3 cheap glass thermometers all agree. $2-3 each.

That's my take as well. Lots of really hopeless variability at LFS and those colour-changing LCD strips specifically are just the worst. I've gone with a glass thermometer that I keep embedded in the substrate with the idea that with good flow the water and substrate temperatures will be "close enough" and that way I don't have to faff around with trying to suspend the thermometer in the water column.
